2、res. in his early childhood, his father began to drink heavily after his mother died and then he moved with his younger sister to live with his grandmother whose home is on the barks of the river thames in the berkshire village of cookham in southern england. he married elspeth thomson in 1899,but t

3、he marriage was not a happy one. they had only one child, a boy named alastair whose nickname was “mouse” born in blind in one eyes and pl agued by health problems throughout his short life. he wrote this book and told these stories to his son before sleeping. he was rewarded by these stories and so

7、ive with the change of seasons. the novel reveals the friendship and warm feelings inthe willows. there are four main characters in this novel: the humble mole, the clever rat, the mature badger, the dissolute toad. they play important roles in their beautiful life. the main details are as follows:s

8、 pring is coming. the mole can not control his passion. he rushes out the hole to touch the fresh air. he feels so excited and he recognizes the rat, the toad, the badger. they become close friends gradually. he experiences a process of risk with his friends. the toad depends on his family property

9、to live, so he is very wasteful. he always shows off his property and waste them without control. he likes to go for new things without thinking. he also goes shopping crazily. unluckily, he was treated by bad animals. as so often happens, troubles never come alone. he goes to prison. all his family

10、 properties were robbed by the bad animals. life is always like this, it cant be smoothly all the time. with the help of his friends, they defeat the bad animals and the toad seizes back his family property. they make efforts to do this thing successfully. at that time, the toad was moved by his fri
