The technology of AMI comprises various elements such as AMI smart meter, network infrastructure, meter data management system (MDMS) and supports systems which include home energy management software and in-home display units. It enables consumers to know the energy usage in real-time manner and allows them to make decisions to use energy efficiently. Additionally, the energy usage data from the AMI meters helps the utilities to understand the period of peak demand and consumer energy usage patterns. ZTE M2M AMI solution, combined by M2M Middleware technologies, Cloud Computing architecture to set up a unified energy information collection and processing system, helps to energy efficiency and carbon reduction and brings new revenues to energy enterprise and customers.1.1 Why need AMITraditional energy billing system is based on manual metering which leads to high labor costs and cannot provide real-time accurate data for billing, line loss control, analysis, market forecasts, and aid-decision. Based on AMI system, above problems will be resolve efficiently. For energy company:1. Reduce OPEX. Traditional meter cannot support remote meter reading, and the billing relies on manual meter reading and fee collection. In order to cover wide area, the power companies often need lots of manpower. AMI supports remote meter reading and prepaid functions, which can save more than 90% labor costs.2. Power consumption from meter. Smart meters have designed based on electronic components, so the average power consumption is 0.6-0.7 Watt. But traditional Induction Type Meters will be 1.7-2 Watt. Therefore the power consumption from meter will be reduced greatly by smart meter. For example, there are 500,000 meters in the energy network, so the average saved power consumption will be 500,000 Watt.3. Precision. Normally meter of level 2 means the measurement error is 2% within the 5% to 400% current range, and smart meters now are level 1 normally in fact. The tolerance of Induction Type Meter is 0.86% to -5.7%. Because of the insurmountable defects of mechanical wear, it leads to slower and slower of Induction Type Meter and ultimately increasing error. Substantial evidence indicates that for more than 50% meters after 5 years, the error is exceeded the allowed range, which causes additional revenue loss to the energy company.4. Overload and over frequency range. Smart meters has a wide work range which can bear up to 68 times of overloaded at least, some smart meters can bear up to 810times, some even up to 20 times. For frequency, smart meters can work within 40HZ100HZ normally. For Induction Type Meter, the overload is 4 times, and the operating frequency range is only between 4555HZ. So in the voltage instability area, smart meters can guarantee long time working life and avoid overload damage.5. Functions.AMI is based on smart meter which is a result of the electronic technology, and can support the relevant communication protocols to connect with computer. Therefore AMI supports remote control (remote reading, remote connect or disconnect), multi tariff, recognition malignant load, anti-tampering, and prepaid function. Those functions, for traditional of induction type meters, are too difficult to implement.6. Line loss analysis and control. For traditional meter, meter reading relies on manual reading and cannot ensure consistency reading time and accuracy data, so it is difficult for line loss analysis. For AMI, above problems will be resolved, so the system can do entire line loss analysis and alarm, to help power companies improve and deal with line loss. Substantial evidence indicates that the line losses is more than 30% in most of South Asia countries, but this data can be about 6% in most developed countries. So AMI can help power companies to increase greatly.2 Benefits of ZTE Solution1. Remote meter readings AMR mainly saves utility providers the expense of sending out employees to take readings. This reduction in transportation requirements means less fuel consumption and less carbon emissions from the vehicle tailpipe. Advanced metering will also virtually eliminate meter reading errors.2. Safety for engineerIn some area, meter reading can be a dangerous/hazardous job and meter readers have at times been electrocuted or even a hacked by bees and dogs. Our solution places safety before all and ensures that readings are a haired in a safe manager remotely. AMI adopts automatic meter reading which can avoid this heart. Even through the meter must be read by manual, the meter reader can use HHU (hand held Unit) to read the meter by wireless (RF) without entering the house of customer.3. Remote configurationDiagnostics, software and firmware changes including: upgradeable WAN/HAN communications, leveraged open architecture principles in system design and future customer service offerings.4. Improve reliabilityRemote diagnostics can detect a service outage. Today, a utility may not know about an outage until the customer calls to complain. Similarly, they may not know when service is restored. 5. Remote cut offThe ability for energy firms to cut off supplies remotely. Gas meters would probably include a remotely-operable shutoff valve for this purpose. 6. Requisite for distributed generation Intelligent net metering , the ability to measure exported electricity, as when a house sells electricity back to the grid - perhaps from a plugged-in electric car or other storage system. Similarly the meter must be able to work with micro-generation equipment so as to let people sell electricity to the grid. 7. Improved billing Billing can be based on near real time consumption rather than on estimates based on previous or predicted consumption. This timely information coupled with analysis, can help both Utility providers and customers better control the use and production of electric energy, gas usage, or water consumption. AMI can change the maximum amount of electricity that a customer can demand at any time; and remotely change the meters billing plan from credit to prepay as well as from flat-rate to multi-tariff. 8. DLMS enabledZTE M2M AMI supports DLMS protocol. The meter or concentrator can connect to AMI platform via DLMS protocol (IEC 62056).9. End-to-End solutionl Complete product supply including meters, collector and concentratorl Rich communication modules such as GPRS, EDGE, CDMA 1X, EVDO, 3G, RF, Zigbee, MBUS, and RS485 etc.10. High performance and high reliability designZTE M2M AMI takes full consideration of the capacity requirement in large-scale application and accessing to numerous terminals. The system adopts multi-module load balance scheme to support large-scale concurrent requests from terminals and increase the utility rate of hardware; The system adopts the distributed cache mechanism to effectively avoid the loss of transaction data in single-node fault; the combination with multi-module load balance mechanism avoids the service interruption resulted by the dual machine switchover. 11. High extendibility designZTE M2M AMI adopts the multi-module and blade architecture to support linear extension. Service processing nodes support hot swap to ensure high capacity extendibility. ZTE M2M AMI introduces the metadata definition as the structural description to the data structure of the metering protocol, which endows the platform with excellent compatibility and extendibility to terminals supporting various interactive protocols. 12. Perfect meter managementZTE M2M AMI platform provides terminal/meter management, including supplier, model, model characteristics, connection relationship between meters and concentrators and the route relationship of meter MESH network. The platform creates and distributes metering tasks, receives metering data from meters and concentrators; the platform deals with events and alarms from meters and concentrators and implements corresponding actions. 13. Full consideration of operation managementZTE M2M AMI platform manages the power companys power supply area, transformer supply area and line, and authorizes regional administrators to manage users and terminals of their areas. The platform and terminal support time zone/ time segment tariff and step-rate tariff, which enriches the tariff strategy of the power company. It supports the marketing system interface with the power company, synchronizes metering data and implements remote control to the meter switch according to the command of the marketing system. 14. Abundant statistics and analysis featuresZTE M2M AMI platform has built-in MDMS system to provide metering data management and data analysis. MDMS provides multi-dimensional data statistics and statistical report for the power company to analyze the power consumption rule and power grid load rule to figure out the reasonable tariff strategy. MDMS also implements deeper data analysis and mining to line loss, abnormal electricity usage and electricity usage situation to provide support to operation information and determination-making for power companies.3 Proposed Solution3.1 Design PrincipleZTE has proposed ZTE M2M AMI solution for Bangladesh.l Opening The M2M AMI solution is based on M2M platform with SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) designing.l Integration The M2M AMI can support integrate non-standard terminal in adaptation layer which applies plug-in component to load new non-standard terminal dynamically.l Operation capability- The M2M AMI platform has built-in MDMS system to provide metering data management and data analysis.
