MY favorite festival1. New Years Day 元旦(1月1日)2. Spring Festival/Chinese New Years Day 春节(农历一月一日)Food: Jiaozi, a steamed dumpling(蒸饺), is popular in the north, while southerners favor(喜爱) a sticky(粘的) sweet glutinous (粘的)rice pudding (布丁)called nian gao.Activities: Before the festival, people will go shopping, make new clothes, pay tribute(礼物) to the Kitchen God (厨神)and ancestors(祖先), prepare the family reunion banquet(宴会), paste (贴)door gods (门神)and spring couplets(春联)on their gates(大门), and pin up (钉住)New Year pictures (年画)on walls. During the festival, they will visit each other and exchange New Years greetings, and set off firecrackers(放烟花). Children will receive red envelop(红包) from parents and relatives as holiday presents. There are dragon, lion, and yang ge dances and lantern shows(舞龙,舞狮,跳秧歌,赏花灯) in both urban and rural areas.3.The Lantern(灯笼) Festival 元宵节(农历一月十五日)The Lantern Festival is also called Yuan Xiao Festival. This first full moon of the year is a symbol of happy family reunion and a full and happy life.Food: On the night of the first full moon, most people in China will eat Yuan Xiao, a kind of dumplings made of glutinous rice flour(糯米粉) and stuffing(填充物) (sesame(芝麻), peanuts(花生), vegetable, or meat). These dumplings are also known as Tang Yuan. Activities: Marveling at the lanterns and eating Yuan Xiao are the two highlights of the Lantern Festivals. In rural (农村的)areas, activities with distinct ethnic features and artistic appeal are also held, such as lantern riddles(猜灯谜), yang ge dance competitions, and theatrical performances.4. Ching Ming Festival ;Tomb-sweeping Festival 清明节(4月5日) Festival of Pure Brightness is also called Tomb-Sweeping Day. It is the occasion for all Chinese to honor their ancestors.Food: On the day of the festival, people would only eat cold foods that had been prepared the day before. Activities: sweeping the tombstones(扫墓) of ancestors, burning ceremonial paper money(烧纸钱) for the dead, going to the suburbs(郊区), swinging, flying a kite(放风筝), cockfighting(斗鸡), and playing ball, etc.5. The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival端午节The Dragon boat Festival, or Duan Wu Festival, has the longest history of any of the festivals celebrated in China.Food: Zong Zi, glutinous rice dumplings wrapped (包裹)in bamboo leaves(粽叶), are served on the festival. The weed leaves give a special flavor to the food. Activities: During the festival, Dragon boat races are held to the sounds of thunderous drumbeats. People will also throw rice-filled bamboo tubes (桶)into the river as an offering. The Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节(8月15日)赏月 admire the moon The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most charming nights of the calendar. On that night the moon is supposed to be brighter and fuller than any other night. In China, a full moon is symbolic of family reunion, which is why that day is also known as the Day of Reunion. Food: People eat moon cakes (月饼)and round fruits such as apples, honey peaches, and grapes. The shape of the food symbolizes the fullness of the moon and family harmony. Activities: Sons and daughters come back to their parents house. They usually eat fragrant (芳香的)moon cakes of many varieties, while children run around with their brightly-lit lanterns. After nightfall, entire families go out under the stars for a walk, looking up at the full silver moon, thinking of their nearby relatives or friends, as well as those who are far from home.范文The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar(中国的农历). Its Chinas New Years Day. So usually a month before the festival people begin to buy food clothes and decorations(装饰) for houses. About a week before the festival housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the houses. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new years family reunion(团聚). On New Year Eve each family will gather tighter eating talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from parents or grandparents. On Lunar New Years Day after getting up people will eat dumplings. When they meet their neighbours or friends theyll say: “Happy New Year!”
