约翰冯奥斯汀雕塑方案john van alstine,s c u l p t u r e p r o p o s a lBEIJING OLYMPIC PARKJohn Van AlstineFebruary 2006美国,团结之圆恒久的循环 RINGS OF UNITY - CIRCLES OF INCLUSION,我的雕塑方案源于奥林匹克运动最基本的理念。奥林匹克运动是全球的盛会,来自全世界的运动员聚集在一起,在发扬竞技精神的同时,也促进文化理解与交流。,My proposal is based on the most fundamental ideals of the Olympic games: That they are universal, bringing athletes from the entire world together to promote athletic excellence while furthering cultural understanding and exchange.,Each of the five Olympic rings is a different color. Together, they represent the five inhabited continents, although no particular ring is meant to represent any specific continent. (The Americas are treated as one continent.) The rings are interlaced to represent the idea that the Olympics are universal, bringing together athletes from across the globe. The Olympic flag places the Olympic rings on a white background. As every national flag in the world contains at least one of the flags six colors (black, blue, green, red, yellow, white), further symbolizes the universality of the Olympics. 五个环分别是五种不同的颜色,代表着五大洲,虽然各个环并没有特指某一个洲。五环相互交织,象征着奥林匹克是全球的盛会,将运动员由世界各地聚集在一起。奥林匹克旗帜背景为白色,上面是五个圆环。每个国家的国旗都至少包含了奥运会旗中的一种颜色(黑、蓝、绿、红、黄、白),进一步象征了着奥林匹克的国际性与普遍性。,B a s e d o n t h e s y m b o l s: Rings and Flag基于奥运会象征的五环与旗帜,P R O P O S A L one _ 5 rings - 5 stones雕塑方案 之一 五环 五石,Using the Olympic symbol of the interlaced circles representing the 5 world continents as a basis for the sculptures, I propose 5 large ring sculptures made of metal (bronze or steel) combined with stone, similar to the maquettes illustrated. Each individual work would incorporate a stone from one of the five contentment as the central element in the sculptures. 本方案借用相互交织的奥运五环以代表五个大洲。建议五个环形雕塑由金属制成(铜或铁),与石头结合,如图示之模型。每一个独立的环的中央有一块来自五大洲之一的石头。,Placement - conceptually interlaced设置方式成环行呼应联结,Placement - conceptually interlaced设置方式成环行呼应联结,The locations or sites for these sculptures in the Beijing Olympic Park would be critical and would be coordinated with the site planners and the landscape design team. Ideally I would like to place them through out the park in a large expansive, over aching ring or circle pattern thus further emphasizing the symbolism of the interlaced and inter-connected Olympic rings. Another interesting possibility would be to use the principles of Feng Shui to capitalize on the earths environmental energy lines, aligning the sculptures in balance and in peaceful harmony with the forces of nature thus again further underscoring Olympic ideals.在奥林匹克公园的设置方式是本方案的关键,须由作品安装规划者与景观设计团队协作进行。理想的情况是,作品设置在一个扩展性的圆上,覆盖整个奥林匹克公园,以与相互交织连接的奥运五环相呼应。另一个很有趣的方式是,参考“风水”的原则,以地球的“环境能量线”为依据,使雕塑与自然的力量形成平衡与和谐,以此来象征奥林匹克理念。,P R O P O S A L two _ 1 ring -1 stone方案之二 一环一石,P R O P O S A L two _ 1 ring -1 stone方案之二 一环一石,I believe that the power and important symbolic nature of the ring sculptures could also be successfully conveyed in one monumental circular stone and metal sculpture similar to the maquette illustrated. As mentioned above the location of this work with in the Olympic park would be very important, perhaps considering Feng Shui again for alignment.我相信,“圆环雕塑”的力量与极具象征性的特征应当也能成功地在一个大型金属圆环及石头中得到体现,如图中模型所示。此方案中作品在奥林匹克公园中的设置亦相当重要,或许也可以参考“风水”原理。,G r e e k C o n n e c t i o n Reconsidering Sisyphus - Olympic parallels希腊之源 “重新审视科林斯王”,G r e e k C o n n e c t i o n “Reconsidering Sisyphus” - Olympic parallels希腊之源 “重新审视 科林斯王”,As the Olympics have there origin in ancient Greece so does one aspect of my proposal. The RINGS OF UNITY - CIRCLES OF INCLUSION are extensions of my recent sculptural series entitled Sisyphean Circles. The central idea is based on the Greek methodical character Sisyphus who was forced to roll a large stone up a steep hill, which tumbles back down when it reaches the top. The process is never ending, lasting all eternity. Albert Camus, the French existentialist writer in his essay Reconsidering Sisyphus used this myth to illustrate his idea that reaching one final destination is not always the most important, but rather it is the struggle or journey of getting there that is ultimately the most meaningful. 古希腊是奥林匹克的发源地,因此我的方案也与希腊有关。方案团结之圆恒久的循环是我最近的系列雕塑恒久的圆的延伸,其主题是基于希腊神话中关于科林斯王的故事。科林斯王被迫将一块巨石滚上一座陡峭的山,每当石头到达山顶时又滚到了山底。过程永无休止,直到永远。法国存在主义作家加缪在他的重新审视科林斯王中,借用了这一神话来说明他的思想:实现目标并不总是最重要的,而为此目标的达成而奋斗的过程才是最有意义的。,G r e e k C o n n e c t i o n “Reconsidering Sisyphus” - Olympic parallels希腊之源 “重新审视 科林斯王”,Similarly the Olympic athletes can not all win the gold metals, and this indeed is not ultimately the most important goal. It is rather their journey, their endless days and years of training, their personal struggle to do their best - it is this personal triumph coupled with a greater understanding of other people and cultures, that in the end, is the paramount Olympic victory and is beautifully symbolized in the proposed sculptures and there interconnected placement with in the park.同样地,并不是每一个奥林匹克运动员都能赢得金牌,这实在也不是终极的目标。而他们的奋斗过程,日复一日、年复一年的训练,为突破自我而进行的顽强拼搏只有这属于个体的成功,伴随着对其他民族与文化的理解,才是奥林匹克的胜利,当在此方案中的雕塑与奥林匹克公园完美结合的时候,这个主题就得到了美妙的体现。古希腊是奥林匹克的发源地,因此我的方案也与希腊有关。方案团结之圆恒久的循环是我最近的系列雕塑恒久的圆的延伸,其主题是基于希腊神话中关于科林斯王的故事。科林斯王被迫将一块巨石滚上一座陡峭的山,每当石头到达山顶时又滚到了山底
