This text has a clear structure as there are three subtitles: types of stand-up, a famous comedian and laughter is good for your health. Then the first paragraph severs as a brief introduction. In the first part, the author offers the definition of stand-up comedy and some related information. The first and the last parts are relatively simple. The more complex parts are the second and the third part. In the second part, the author tell us the altogether four types of stand-up comedy: 1. tell jokes about about the way people behave or about daily life. 2. visual humor-inspired by objects. 3. funny/physical performance. 4. do impressions. Besides explanation, some examples are also offered to help the students to have a better understand of this part. Actually, I think stand-up comedy is not very familiar to us Chinese. As a result Ill find some vivid pictures or videos to make sure the students can fully understand them. The third part mainly talks about Billy Crystal, a famous comedian. From the text we can see he enjoys popularity and achieve great success because of his several qualities. The students can be guided to have a deep thinking in these aspects and try to learn something useful from him.The reading strategy is to teach the students two methods to guess the meaning according to the text. Method one is to read the sentences around the word. The other one is to pay attention to the way a word is used. Some difficult words in the text such as routine, appropriate can be used as practice.Analysis on learnersThe learners are the eleven graders from class 1 to class 6. They are the mid-level learners in our school. They took the mid-term exam in the previous week. And they just begin to learn this brand new module.
