1、Charm and Harm of Video GamesAlthough many people doubt the advantages of video games, But in my opinion, video games have unique values and attractions of their own. They are a great invention of our times and they present a vivid and colorful world in front of us. In video games we can experience something we had never dreamed of. However video games if misused can also have very bad effects on human beings. Firstly spending long time in front of the screen will bring to various health problems. Also if people spend too much time on video games rather than the work they should do, it may have bad effects on their real life and social life status.It is true for everything that it is beneficial if used wisely, therefore although video games are widely said to be bad for people, it can still be used as a good tool if used wisely. 2、The Function of Mass MediaMass media are very important tools of communication, through which information is passed to even the farthest end of the world. They enable us to communicate with each other by helping us to overcome the barriers of time and space. Mass media function in various ways. Below are listed the most commonly seen.First, mass media keep us well informed of the happenings of the world. Second, mass media persuade us mostly through advertisements. As we can see, newspapers, magazines and TV are filled with all kinds of colourful, persuasive advertisements which tempt us to buy their products. Third, mass media give us entertainment. Television and radio broadcasting provide us with a big variety of programmes every day. Films, books, magazines, etc. give us daily amusement.In a word, mass media will be all the more important in the future and their functions will enormously expand. Limited by space, only a few examples are mentioned here.3、Advertisement and products In todays commercial economy society, there are many commodities we can choose. And it is no doubt that advertisement is a good way of choosing products we need.Advertisement is common is our daily life. We can learn a lot from the advertisement, such as the quality of the products. It can also reflect the reputation of a company. People can remember the name of a brand by advertisement. Products or companies cannot live without advertisement.On the other hand, advertisement must stand on the basis of quality of the products. Without good quality, in no way will the products be sold well. Because people will buy one product for attracted by attractive advertisement, but not the advertisement. In my opinion, advertisement should be attractive for catching peoples eyes and let people buy the product. However, it must be more vital to guarantee the quality. Magnifying the function of one product may let people feel cheated. 4、Will phones kill letter writing?There seems to be a fashion nowadays, especially among the young people, to phone each other more often than write letters. Nevertheless, I dont side with the idea that phones are going to kill letter writing.For one thing, as the main method of communication for most part of the history, letter-writing has a lot of advantages over the phone. Time-consuming as it may be, it conveys ones feelings and emotions much more sincerely and completely than the phone does. For another, although the phone is being put into more frequent use, in many cases a formal or informal letter, rather than a short call, is required. For instance, nobody would consider it appropriate to invite a distinguished guest to a ceremony by simply giving him a call. However, I am not suggesting that we should abandon the phone for letter-writing. Actually, they are both important to us and neither will kill the other. 5、The Grading of FilmsFilms are now not graded in China. Therefore, no matter what kind of film is being shown, it is common to see parents and children going to the cinema together. Some people think this has given rise to at least two problems.The first problem is that film makers are caught in a dilemma(dilem?) because they do not know what kind of film they should make to satisfy both the adults and the children. They must make great efforts to meet the satisfaction of the adults and children. Consequently, they lose both kinds of audiences, wasting a lot of money. The second problem is that non graded films might give children the wrong moral impression. I think it absolutely necessary that the films be graded. I am afraid that the increased crime rate in teenagers is partly due to the influence from the films for adults. Films ought to educate the young not to ruin them.6、Ways to communicate with friendsThe general way I prefer to communicate with my friends is the phone call, chatting about what has happened in our city. Besides the phone call, sending E-mail is also a better approach. Many of my friends live aboard where I can not phone them directly due to a high charge for phone call, I usually resort to E-mail writing. In spite of the long way between us, I can communicate with them freely. Certainly, the best and most efficient way to communicate, I think, is to turn off my computer, go out of my office and pay a visit to my friends or invite them for a party. Nevertheless, I think the way adopted by one person to communicate with friends is not the most important. The most important thing is ones attitude to friends. Showing respect, honesty and loyalty to friends is the basic element for successful and efficient communication.7、Your favorite type of filmsI watched many types of film, but cartoon which I like best. It seems belongs to the children only is not true. Because, in day off, many people often go to cinema to watch cartoons. I like Chinese cartoons most, because I think Chinese Cartoons are traditional, and they help me know something about Chinese history like Journey to the West, Nezha and so on.Some cartoon is very valuable from which we can learn much, and it is a good way to relax after a days study or work. It can bring happiness to the children and teach them in a special way which is quite different from the traditional way of teaching children. In my opinion, it brings happiness to us too. If you do not watch the movie The Lion King, Beauty and Beast and so on, I advise you having a try and you will like it. 8、Traditional shopping and on-line shopping With the advent of the internet, shopping online becomes increasingly popular nowadays. It is a concussion to the traditional shopping way that we buy things in real-life stores. Traditional shopping is a funny way. We can go to shop with friends, enjoy the sunshine, communicate with the shopkeeper. The products are really existent and you can touch them or compare them. Nevertheless, it is not convenient, and we are easy to get tired of walking from one shop to another.By contrast with traditional purchasing way, shopping online is more conveniently. We can buy things at any time. Yet, it may be unsafe to enter private card details on the Internet. It is easy to be cheated when you shop online. In a word, to choose the traditional method or to choose the modern method is just depending on our need and our habits.
