文档简介

2015年度杭州师范大学第二届口译大赛暨第四届全国口译大赛(英语)初赛样卷(第一阶段笔试)Part A Note-taking and Gap-filling Directions: In this part of the test you will hear a short talk. You will hear the talk only once. While listening to the talk, you may take notes on the important points so that you can have enough information to complete a gap-filling task below. Fill in each blank with one word only: Wearing clothes can always transmit signals about peoples social roles and attitudes towards their culture. With the exception of the two extremes on the social (1)_: the very rich socialites and poor vagrants. Clothing Signals are the result of a single daily event for the (2) _ of people. The assumption of an increased (3) _ trend in modern dressing behavior is misleading. There is no (4) _ of formality today, merely the (5) _ of old formalities for new. One of the most mysterious fashion trends is the relationship between female skirt length and (6) _ conditions. There has been a precise correlation between the length of female skirts and the periods of boom and (7) _: if the stock market rises, so do the skirts. Its hard to explain exactly why, but hopefully, future (8) _ will give us a clever explanation. Many short-term variations are at work in a hundred different ways, as fashion trends diffuse themselves rapidly around the globe. Each new minor trend (9) _ or reverses the fashion of the previous season. Unconsciously, we all plot graphs of shifting Clothing Signals all the time and read off the many signals that our companions clothes transmit to us in every social encounter. Clothing is as much a part of human body language as (10) _, facial expressions and postures.
