Unit 2 Sports events课时练1阅读理解提速练学生用书P283(单独成册) 阅读理解A(2019湖北重点中学模拟)Dont have plenty of time for reading? If you are interested in nonfiction books, here are good choices for you.A Room of Ones OwnThis essay by English writer Virginia Woolf is based on her several lectures given to two womens colleges at Cambridge University in 1928. In it,Woolf describes that its circumstance not talent alone that allows men to be more successful at writing. Women,in other words, spend so much time cooking, cleaning, and tending to their children that they have no time left for art. To write well, therefore,a woman must have “a room of her own”. While on its surface, this essay appears to be only about writing,it is actually about wealth and class, freedom and imprisonment, and the power struggle between sexes. The Art of WarWritten by ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Zi,The Art of War is widely considered to be one of the best books about military strategy(军事战略) in human history. Consisting of 13 chapters, each dealing with a separate aspect about how to fight a war,the book has been translated into many languages and has thousands of editions. For centuries,it has been used to train military leaders for its detailed study of military strategy and effective leadership.Letter to My DaughterThis book of essays and poems by Maya Angelou,a respectable American poet,is written for “the daughter she never had” the millions of women, both young and old,who she considers to be her “family”. From the viewpoint of a caring, older relative, this book contains lessons selected from her own life experiences, including the birth of her only child,a son,as well as the development and loss of friendship.A Brief History of TimeIf youre short on time, then why not read about, well, the creation of time? This book, first published in 1998 from brilliant scientist and mathematician Stephen Hawking, explores mindbending questions about the creation of the universe, including if and when it will end,and if so,how. Despite its heavy subject matter,Hawking addresses these questions in a way thats easy to understand, even for those who know little about physics.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了四本纪实类文学作品。1What can we learn about the four books?AA Brief History of Time mainly focuses on the matter of time.BLetter to My Daughter is actually a common family letter.CThe Art of War gives advice on how to be military leaders.DA Room of Ones Own is more than about writing.D解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“While on its surface, this essay appears to be only about writing,it is actually about wealth and class, freedom and imprisonment, and the power struggle between sexes.” more than意思是 “不仅仅”。2What can be inferred from the passage?AAs a physicist,Hawking is equally famous for writing.BMaya devotes herself to fighting for womens rights.CThe book by Sun Zi is helpful in policymaking.DWoolf looks down upon men in writing.C解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中的“The Art of War is widely considered to be one of the best books about military strategy(军事战略)”和“each dealing with a separate aspect about how to fight a war”可知,The Art of War对政策的制定有帮助。 3What is the purpose of the passage?ATo make comparisons between the four books.BTo recommend the four books to readers.CTo make comments on the four books.DTo promote sales of the four books.B解析:写作意图题。根据第一段 “Dont have plenty of time for reading? If you are interested in nonfiction books, here are good choices for you.” B(2019甘肃重点中学协作体高三第一次联考)In ancient Egypt, the pharaoh(法老) treated the message runner like a prince when he arrived at the palace, if he brought good news. However, if the exhausted runner had the misfortune to bring the pharaoh unhappy news, his head was cut off.Shades of that spirit spread over todays conversations. Once a friend and I packed up some peanut butter and sandwiches for an outing. As we walked lightheartedly out of the door, picnic basket in hand, a smiling neighbor looked up at the sky and said, “Oh boy, a bad day for a picnic. The weatherman says its going to rain.” I wanted to strike him on the face with the peanut butter and sandwiches. Not for his stupid weather report, but for his smile.Several months ago I was racing to catch a bus. As I breathlessly put my handful of cash across the Greyhound counter, the sales agent said with a broad smile, “Oh, that bus left five minutes ago.” Dreams of headcutting! Its not the news that makes someone angry. Its the unsympathetic attitude with which its delivered(传递). Everyone must give bad news from time to time, and big winners do it with the proper attitude. A doctor advising his patient that she needs an operation does it in a caring way. A boss informing an employee he fails to get the job takes on a sympathetic tone. Big winners know, when delivering any bad news, they should share the feeling of the receiver.Unfortunately, many people are not aware of this. When youre tired from a long flight, has a hotel clerk cheerfully said that your room isnt ready yet? When you had your heart set on the toasted beef, has your waiter merrily told you that he just served the last piece? It makes you as a traveler or diner want to land your fist right on their unsympathetic faces.Had my neighbor told me of the upcoming rainstorm with sympathy, I would have appreciated his warning. Had the Greyhound salesclerk sympathetically informed me that my bus had already left, I probably would have said, “Oh,thats all right. Ill catch the next one.” Big winners, when they bear bad news, deliver bombs with the emotion the bombarded(被轰炸的) person is sure to have.【解题导语】本文主要讲述当我们要告诉别人不好的消息的时候,要注意说话的方式和语气,还要带有同情心。4From “Dreams of headcutting!”(Paragraph 3), we learn that the writer_Awas reminded of the cruel pharaohBwas mad at the sales agentCwished that the sales agent would have bad dreamsDdreamed of cutting the sales agents head that nightB解析:推理判断题。 5Which of the following is true?AThe author really appreciated the neighbors warning.BFrom the passage we know that it is the bad news that makes someone angry.CIf the runner brought to the pharaoh unhappy news, he would be treated like a prince.DWhen we want to deliver any bad news, we should share the feeling of the receiver.D解析:推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Big winners know, when delivering any bad news, they should share the feeling of the receiver.” 6What is the main idea of the text?AReceiving bad news requires great courage.BHelping others sincerely is the key to business success.CDelivering bad news with sympathy is important in communication.DLearning ancient traditions can be useful.C解析:主旨大意题。 7In the writers opinion, his neighbor was_Anot helpfulBnot considerateCfriendly DwarmheartedB解析:推理判断题。第二段中的“As we walked lightheartedly out of the door, picnic basket in hand, a smiling neighbor looked up at the sky and said.I wanted to strike him on the face with the peanut butter and sandwiches.”以及最后一段中的“Had my neighbor told me of the upcoming rainstorm with sympathy, I would have appreciated his warning.” C(2019山西太原高三模拟) At 39 weeks pregnant most women would only be thinking of racing to hospital. But not Amber Miller, who set off to run the Chicago Marathon while expecting her second child any day.As she neared the final stage of the race, she began to feel pain in the stomach. But the determined athlete managed to cross the finish line in 6 hours and 25 minutes.Unbelievably the Chicago race was not even baby Junes first marathonMiller ran the Wisconsin Marathon earlier this year, four months pregnant. She also ran another marathon when she was about four months pregnant with her son, Caleb.Although there was extra weight, the seasoned runners time was just 3 hours off her personal best.Miller began to feel pain near the end of the race, but she was not sure if it was labor(分娩), because she typically feels some pain when she runs while pregnant. After her race her husband drove her to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield where she gave birth to the healthy 7 pounds, 13 ounce baby.Miller decided to run because she and her husband had already signed up for the race. The athletic mother said she experienced an enthusiastic welcome from crowds as she ran along. But the devoted runner, who had completed eight marathons, admitted that she did get a few strange looks along the course.“I know what I can handle. This is something Ive been doing for a long time,” the experienced marathon runner said.June was born at 10:29 pm.on Sunday night after seven hours labor.“Shes absolutely perfect,” Miller said.“We are extremely happy, but very tired.”After her surprising double achievement, Miller says she is planning to take some time off to concentrate on being a fulltime mom.【解题导语】本文讲述了在芝加哥马拉松赛上,Amber Miller已怀孕39周,但她坚持用6个小时25分钟完成了马拉松赛并在当晚产下了小女儿June。8What can we learn from the passage?AMiller failed to finish the race due to her labor.BMillers husband was against her running the race.CMiller knew she was going to give birth at the end of the race.DIt wasnt Millers first time to run a marathon while pregnant.D解析:细节理解题。 D。9What is the name of Millers kid born right after the Chicago Marathon?ACaleb.BJune.CAmber. Even when you have the best intentions to work out, excuses are so easy to find “Im too tired” or “Im busy” or “The weather is bad”. Dont worry! 1._Take baby steps. You would never try to run 10 miles on one day, right? When you do too much too soon, youll end up injured and discouraged. Take it easy as you get started. Maybe you only run a quarter of a mile during your first week. 2._Show the clock who is boss. Health experts say you should aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise a week, plus weight training at least twice a week. If you work too late to get to a gym, keep a set of weights at home. If you cant do 30 minutes at once, break it up into 10or 15minute sections.3._ Your workout should be just as much a habit as brushing your teeth or eating breakfast. When its part of your routine, you wont even have to think about it. In a few months, fitness can be regular in your day.Keep it real. Youre not going to shake off 30 pounds in a week. 4._For example, increase your workout schedule from 2 to 3 days a week, or exercise for 15 more minutes each time.Celebrate! 5._Therefore, even a pound of weight loss or a pound of muscle gain is the reason to reward yourself. Go out with friends, or buy a new pair of jeans.AGet used to it.BDo it for yourself.CIt takes weeks to see real changes.DKeep a fitness journal to record your progress.EAim for something thats realistic as a first step.FThe following tricks can keep your fitness routine on track.GWhen it becomes easy for you, you can make it more challenging.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了能使自己坚持锻炼的几条建议。 及上文的“Take it easy as you get started. Youre not going to shake off 30 pounds in a week.” 5C解析:根据空后的“Therefore,even a pound of weight loss or a pound of muscle gain is the reason to reward yourself.” 课时练2知识运用板块练学生用书P286(单独成册) 完形填空(2019兰州诊断)My daughter Kelly is a cautious person.
