AToo much TV-watching can harm childrens ability to learn and even reduce their chances of getting a college degree, new studies suggest in the latest effort to examine the effects of television on children. One of the studies looked at nearly 400 northern California third-graders.Those with TVs in their bedrooms scored about eight points lower on math and language arts tests than children without bedroom TVs.A second study, looking at nearly 1,000 grown-ups in New Zealand, found lower education levels among 26-year-olds who had watched lots of TV during childhood. But the results dont prove that TV is the cause and dont rule out that already poorly motivated youngsters(年轻人) may watch lots of TV.Their study measured the TV habits of 26-year-olds between ages 5 and 15.Those with college degrees had watched an average of less than two hours of TV per weeknight during childhood, compared with an average of more than 2 hours for those who had no education beyond high school. In the California study, children with TVs in their rooms but no computer at home scored the lowest, while those with no bedroom TV but who had home computers scored the highest. While this study does not prove that bedroom TV sets caused the lower scores,it adds to accumulating findings that children shouldnt have TVs in their bedrooms.1.According to the California study, the low-scoring group might .A.have watched a lot of TVB.not be interested in mathC.be unable to go to collegeD.have had computers in their bedrooms答案:A解析:推理判断题。 故选A项。2.What is the researchers understanding of the New Zealand study results?A.Poorly motivated 26-year-olds watch more TV.B.Habits of TV-watching reduce learning interest.C.TV-watching leads to lower education levels of the 15-year-olds.D.The connection between TV and education levels is difficult to explain. 3.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?A.More time should be spent on computers.B.Children should be forbidden from watching TV.C.TV sets shouldnt be allowed in childrens bedrooms.D.Further studies on high-achieving students should be done. 4.What would be the best title for this text?A.Computers or TelevisionB.Effects of Television on ChildrenC.Studies on TV and College EducationD.Television and Childrens Learning Habits答案:B解析:主旨大意题。 B(2015黑龙江哈尔滨高三统考)Hunger is the greatest motive for the inexperienced cook. But many people are now worried that we are producing a generation without the slightest idea of how to cooka generation that is frightened to cook.I have just received a handout from Focus on Food, which is running a competition to get children back into the kitchen.Has television cooking become a replacement for the real thing? Is this an age where famous professional cooks have turned cooking into a sort of show, with dishes far too difficult for the beginner to copy?I decided to ask my oldest daughter,Miranda, for her opinion. Are children learning enough about the importance of good cooking?Do they know cooking is a basic life skill?Sociology and other “new” subjects are all very well, but without the ability to cook,or to understand the pleasure and principles of good food and its relationship to good health, are we really preparing them for adult life?Miranda started her cooking at the age of nine, when she decided to enter the Sainsburys Future Cook competition. She was motivated by a different kind of greed:the first prizea trip to Disney World. The problem, from the parental point of view, was that if she made it through to the regional (区域性的) finals, she would have to cook her meal in front of the judges. Some 30,000 children entered and she made it through as the youngest regional finalist. Now she had to learn to cook. Her hands were not even big enough to hold the knife and slice the onions.Six Saturdays running we ate the same lunchMozzarella meatballs in fresh tomato juice and blueberry.First, she cooked by my side, then alone with timings and instructions. Finally, she went alone against the clock. The kitchen looked like a battlefield, but she had gained victory. The tiny becapped figure then stood in an unknown Bristol hotel, looking like a professional who had been at the stove for years. She didnt win,but she came home with 50 and the most valuable part of them all:confidence.【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。 1The competition run by Focus on Food is intended for _.AchildrenBparentsCteachers Its absolutely true that kids should learn about how a credit card works and how to use it responsibly. But the idea that they need a card of their own to practise is questionable. Yes,credit cards are a teaching tool, but its the time you spend educating them about money management that does the teaching, not the piece of plastic.Sit down with your childhere we are referring to teens and walk them through your credit card statements.Point out important things like the due date, late fee warning, and APR(年贷款利率) If you have good credit, adding a child as an authorized user onto one of your credit cards also provides teachable moments.Allow kids to use the card to make specific purchases and require their participation in payment. Since the card is still in your name, you can take them off it at any point and cut off their access if theyre not able to handle the responsibility. Another option is to set them up with an account at a local bank that offers free use of a debit card(借记卡)Unlike credit card, the debit card has no overdraft(透支) function.Children can only use the card to pay for things and the money is taken directly from their bank account. If the account is empty, the worst that will happen is the card being declined at a cash register.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文。 1Why does M advise parents to give middle school kids credit cards?ATo leave their kids financially independent.BTo help their kids form good spending habits.CTo teach their kids how to save pocket money.DTo strengthen the relationship with their kids. 根据第一段第二句“The website says a credit card will help children master responsible spending habits and.” 2The author considers a credit card as a teaching tool because _.Ait motivates teens to ask their parents for less financial supportBit helps teenagers to know some basic knowledge of credit cardsCit contains detailed financial information on the card surfaceDit offers parents the chance to teach kids to manage money解析:选D。 根据第三段第一句“Yes,credit cards are a teaching tool, but its the time you spend educating them about money management that does the teaching, not the piece of plastic.” 3What is the purpose of adding kids as credit card authorized users?ATo avoid extremely high overdraft fees.BTo encourage them to share household expenses.CTo teach them to be responsible credit card users.DTo help them pay close attention to their bank account. 根据倒数第三段“.adding a child as an authorized user.Allow kids to use the card to make specific purchases and require their participation in payment.” 4What is most likely to be discussed in the paragraph that follows?AFurther information about the debit card.BThe overdraft functions of a debit card.CMore disadvantages of credit cards.DThe kids attitude towards a credit card.解析:选A。 故选A项。EI took a journey to New York, US several months ago. It was the first time I had been abroad. It was also the first time I had taken a trip by myself. I had great enthusiasm and high hopes, and I wasnt let down. Its hard to describe how I felt when I arrived at the airport in New York. Looking at people of different races and nationalities passing by and hearing different languages all around me, I couldnt say anything for a long time. I had never understood the cultural diversity of the US so clearly and closely before. The following days were even more impressive. We integrated (融入)into the forest of concrete and cement(混凝土和水泥). We waved to the Statue of Liberty; we looked down at the busy island of Manhattan; we looked at the mummies in museums and thought of ancient Egypt. Then we visited some well-known universitiesHarvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbiaeach with its own appealing and time-honored history. But what all these universities have in common is their peaceful academic atmospheres which you could feel everywhere. Students from various countries arrived to act as United Nations delegations and share their opinions about global issues.
