The release previously named Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.1 is now named Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0. The release previously named Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0 is now named Microsoft Dynamics AX 6.0.Microsoft Dynamics AX Release Schedule These changes affect the release schedule. Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0 is now scheduled for release in 2008 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 6.0 in 2010. These technology investments deliver on the breakthrough innovations planned for Microsoft Dynamics Wave II, and move Microsoft Dynamics AX customers and partners closer to the converged Microsoft Dynamics technology platform.Mobility Solutions for Microsoft Dynamics AXWe are also announcing a new line of mobility applications designed to empower more of our customers employees with information that is role-specific to them whether they work at a desk in the finance office or on the assembly line, or whether they are information workers analyzing marketing spend or field salespeople on the road meeting customers. The first such application, the Mobile Sales Assistant, allows field service people to check on inventory, place orders and take signatures electronically. In our first implementations, weve seen dramatic productivity improvements as employees are able to access the power of their full information systems at the point where business actually happens- not just at a desk. These applications work with Microsoft Windows Mobile standard devices, and support offline scenarios for the real world realities of working with different networks and coverage footprints. In addition to a set of applications, we are announcing a framework which lets partners and ISVs extend our mobile applications to deliver even more value to the customer. Today these applications are available in the US, Germany, Denmark, and the UK. After examining the market feedback we received, we decided that it was more important to include additional functionality and enhancements rather than hold to the previously communicated release dates and versions. As a result, our release schedule and the scope of the planned release have changed. Will the target market for Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 6.0 change as a result of the additional functionality and technology improvements youve planned?Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0 and Microsoft Dynamics 6.0 will help strengthen our ability to support larger customers but our dedication to midsize companies will not change. The presence of Microsoft Dynamics AX in geographies such as China, Brazil, Japan, mean we can reach more customers around the world and support the global business of our existing customers.It looks like the next major release, Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0, is a long way off.
