sheet.test1 one hot night last july, when our new baby couldnt sleep,i tried everything i could think of: a warm bottle, several songs, gentle rocking.nothing would settle him.guessing that i had a long night ahead of me,i brought a portable tv into his room, figuring that watching the late movie was as good a way as any to kill the hours until dawn.to my surprise,as soon as the tv lit up,the baby quiet down, his little eyes focused brightly in the tube.not to waste an opportunity for sleep,i tip-toed out of the room, leaving him to watch the doctors celebrate john smiths forty-fifth birthday.my wife and i heard no more of the baby that night ,and the next morning when i went into his room,i found him still watching tv himself. i found in my babys behaviour a metaphor(暗喻)for the new generation.my wife and i had given him some books to examine ,but he merely spit upon them.when we read to him,he did not feel comfortable.and so it is in the schools. we find that our students dont read, that they look down upon reading and scold those of us who teach it.all they want to do is to watch tv.after this experience with the baby, however,i have reached a conclusion:let them watch it.if television is that much more attractive to children than books, why should we fight it?let them watch it all they want!21.the author brought a tv set into his sons room to_.amake his son stop crying.bspend the night watching tvcleave it to his sondmake his son fall asleep as soon as possible22.the babys reaction to the tv was_.a unexpected bexciting cawful dcalm23.from the passage we know that the author is_.aa doctor ban editor ca writer da teacher24.according to the passage, which is true of the school children?athey prefer reading to watching tvbthey like watching tv only after schoolcthey would rather watch tv than read books.dthey like their teachers who teach them reading.25.what do you think is the authors attitude toward tv expressed in the last two sentences?aangry bserious cironical djokingtext 2 to say that the child learns by imitation and that the way to teach is to set a good example over simplifies. no child imitates every action he sees.sometimes, the example the parent wants him to follow is ignored while he takes over contrary patterns from some other examples.therefore we must turn to a more subtle theory than “monkey see, monkey do.” look at it from the childs point of view.he is in a new situation, lacking a ready response.he is seeking a response which will gain certain ends.if he lacks a ready response for the situation, and cannot reason out what to do,he observes a model who seems able to get the right result.the child looks for an authority or expert who can show what to do. there is a second element at work in this situation.the child may be able to attain his immediate goal only to find that his method brings criticism from people who observe him.when shouting across the house achieves his immediate end of delivering a message,he is told emphatically that such a racet(叫嚷)is unpleasant, that he should walk into the next room and speak quietly.thus, the desire to solve any objective situation is overlaid with the desire to solve it properly. one of the early things the child learns is that he gets more affection and approval when his parents like his response.then other adults reward some actions and criticize others.if one is to maintain the support of others and his own self-respect,he must adopt responses his social group approves. in finding trial responses, the learner does not choose models at random.he imitates the person who seems to be a good person, rather than a person whose social status he wishes to avoid.if the pupil wants to be a good violinist,he will observe and try to copy the techniques of capable players; while some other person may influence his approch to books most. admiration of one quality often leads us to admire a person as a whole, and he becomes an identifying figure.we regard some people as models over a wide range of situation, imitating much that they do.we learn that they are dependable and rewarding models because imitating them leads to success.26.the statement that children learn by imitation is incomplete because _.a they only imitate authorities and experts.b they are not willing to copy their parents.c the process of identification has been ignored.d the nature of their imitation as a form of behaviour has been neglected.27.for a child the first element in his learning by imitation is_.a the need to find an authority.b the need to find a way to achive the desired result.c the need for more affection from his parents.d the desire to meet the standards of his social group.28.apart from achieving his desired result, a child should also learn to_abehave properlyb attain his goal as soon as possiblec show his affection for his parents.dtalk quietly29.children tend to imitate their models_.awho do not criticize them.bwho bring them unexpected rewardscwhom they want to be likedwhose social status is high 30.”an identifying figure”(line 2,para.5)refers to a person_.awho serves as a modle for othersbwho is always successfulcwho can be depended upondwho has been rewarded for his success.section iii writing (30 minutes) direction: you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition based on the outline below. the suggested title
