kung fu panda; chinese culture; western culture摘 要 本文主要内容是通过分析电影功夫熊猫来研究文化渗透现象。目的是阐明中国文化对西方文化的渗透现象并分析这一现象出现的原因。当今世界，文化渗透现象，在跨文化交际中是普遍存在的。所谓文化渗透，是指有意或无意地文化影响;也指一个国家作为有意侵略他国的软手段而采取的一种文化政策。因为这是一个很敏感的话题，所以目前对文化渗透的研究，普遍的带有政治色彩。在国内，人们也往往通过对这一领域的研究，来分析一些时政或与政治有关的事项。电影作为一种媒体，不只有娱乐意义，更有文化意义。至于影片中的文化渗透现象，目前国内外的研究成果普遍重视西方文化对中国电影的影响和对中国文化的渗透。但是，不管国内还是国外，对于相反的方面，即中国文化对西方文化的渗透的研究，却被忽略了。而正因如此，本文欲反其道而行之，以电影功夫熊猫为例，着力研究电影领域中中国文化对西方文化的渗透。本文除了引言和结论，正文包括三章内容。第一章是对文化渗透的介绍说明。第二章对电影功夫熊猫中的中国文化对西方文化渗透的现象进行具体分析。第三章主要是对该现象原因的讨论，同时会提出一些独到的思考和见解。关键词：文化渗透 功夫熊猫 中国文化 西方文化introductionnowadays, the world cultures are at a stage of exchanging and integrating. movies have both entertaining significance and cultural significance. as for a movie like kung fu panda, the cultural significance is profound.the chinese culture is extensive and profound. a great amount of reflections about china in the movies produced in america, the superpower country; suggest that china is becoming stronger and stronger, whether the reflections are skin-deep or not.culture penetration is widespread in cultural communication. culture penetration is the phenomenon that one countrys culture deliberately or not, affects other countries cultures. it also refers to the special measures taken by a country when it tries to invade others. because the topic itself is of sensitivity, it is unavoidable that the research on culture penetration is usually related to politics in the world. in china, people also make use of research in this area in order to analyze matters on current politics. as for the culture penetration in movies, recent researches focus on the influences and penetration of western culture to chinese culture. it has two main classes studying the cultural penetration caused by the movie kung fu panda. one perceives that though it has lots of chinese elements, they are superficial even cutesy. the other class considers it as a good movie greatly showing the penetration of chinese culture to western one. kung fu panda reflects culture penetration in many aspects.this thesis takes kung fu panda as an example, focusing on the penetration of chinese culture to western culture in the field of movies. whats more, this paper tries to find out the reflections of the penetration of the chinese culture by paying attention to lots of details in the process of considering every part of the movie. and a deeper analysis will be made based on this. at last, some new ideas will be put forward, which is benefited to both the movie itself and the culture of china, even to the culture and politics of the world.chapter 1 a brief discussion on culture penetrationthis thesis is the study of culture penetration by analyzing the movie kung fu panda and the aim is to illustrate the penetration of chinese culture to western culture and to find out the reasons for this penetration. chapter one will provide some information on culture penetration as a beginning of the thesis.1.1 the definition of culture penetration“culture is neither philosophy nor traditions and customs. it is the sum of the human civilization, which lies in all the social matters related to human beings and reflects their total social behaviors” (qiao, 2008:1). “culture is a complete integration that embodies the spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional characteristics of a society or a social group. it includes not only arts and literatures but lifestyles, basic human rights, value system, traditions and beliefs” (ibid, 2). culture penetration is the phenomenon that one countrys culture deliberately or not, affects other countries cultures. it also refers to the special measures taken by a country when it tries to invade others. culture penetration, with the final goal of cultural imperialism, has been a widely-acknowledged agreement with the academics home and abroad.the cultural output side, obvious in the strong trend, is made to be output by the countrys cultural power; while the culture penetration one, in fact, is aggrieved by the culture, whose culture is under the enormous impact. certainly, on the whole, the cultural penetration can promote the world cultural exchanges and fusion. today the world culture is in a state of a mutual penetration, absorption and dissemination of different cultures, which is a rule.1. 2 manifestation of culture penetrationculture penetration can be manifested in many fields. politics and economy witness the most frequent manifestation of culture penetration. culture penetration can be seen in politics. people should notice that the more powerful a country is the more influential its culture is. what is more, its culture can even penetrate to other countries in politics. they make the people in the countries accept the culture from abroad. it is the charming culture that makes a countrys economy more powerful and active. cultural products are selling well in the market of every country. all these products make sales men earn so much. furthermore, cultural productions made from abroad sell better than those inland for they attract more attention. as culture and arts are naturally related, culture penetration in this field is the most distinct; all the media can be good helpers of culture penetration. firstly, in literature, culture penetration is widely used. there could be culture from abroad in every country, and in any language. many books are achievements of culture from two or more countries. secondly, culture penetration can be seen in sculpture. in this field, culture penetration is obvious. in shanghai, there are sculptures of many famous people from all over the world，and most of them are art stars. what is the most important and common, in movies and tv play series, culture penetration is also overspread. in the modern world, movies could be considered as the most influential thing. movies reflect much of the realism. also in movies, people can see culture penetration directly and deeply. for example, chinese people can get to know western life style and many others by watching an american movie or movies of any other country. western people can also know about china in the same way. culture penetration can be easily noticed in movies and tv series.1. 3 reasons for culture penetration as introduced and illustrated, culture penetration can be manifested in many ways. naturally, there are many reasons for culture penetration. firstly, expansion of economic communication is the root reason for culture penetration. the present economic globalization is the generalization of the economic communication between different countries and areas. in the process of economic communication, different crowds culture influenced each other naturally, and makes cultural communication. in this process, different cultures begin to penetrate into each other due to different economic interests. with the development of economic globalization, the present worldwide relation, which depends on the means of economy as well as science and technology, is deeper, wider and more serious than any other period in history, so is the culture penetration.throughout humans history, with the development of production level, more communication between different crowds and areas urges the expansion of economic communication, which is the root reason for culture penetration. secondly, the purpose of instituting international communication rules is the communication of culture, which bounds to conflict, conformity and penetration of different culture. with the procurement and development of country, international communication appears naturally. it gradually exhibits in communication between countries, between communities of interests and between countries and communities of interests. different countries communicate more and more often, which shows that they respect each others national interests, sovereign rights and dignity in the international communication. today, as the economic globalization develops, countries communicate more often, and different culture meets each other more often. international communication rules also need progress, in order to create conditions for international communication, or more exactly, for cultural communication. due to different interest needs, different countries have interest conflict and conformity, and furthermore, cultural conflict and penetration.1.5 current researches on culture penetration there appears knowledge and comment on western cultural hegemony dating back to the 1960s in the field of thought of western society. focusing on cultural imperialism, most academics believe that western countries penetrate and in fall their culture by media in the global diffusing system that is unfair. they said that the developing countries are facing the culture penetration from western world. generally speaking, western academics hold the opinion that the essence of cultural imperialism is that the developed countries make comprehensive culture penetration to the developing countries and administrate their culture and ideology.according to the study abroad, many academics make a conclusion, that is under the protection of universalism and consumerism, the penetrated culture is actually a new kind of colonialism, and the purpose is to control the ideology and sense of worth of the culture penetration country.in fact, the current research on culture penetration abroad can not be considered as consummate. however, they do give a lift to our research and study on this issue in china.previously, chinese academics do limited researches on this topic; most of them focus on the introduction of the achievements abroad. but with the development of academics in china, there have been some books and other achievements. they also point out the essence of cultural imperialism. and most people believe that western cultures are penetrating into china at a high degree and fast speed. they say chinese culture is facing a big challenge from western culture.however, there are few academics who consider the penetration from chinese culture to western culture. for this, the main content and purpose of this thesis is to study the penetration from chinese culture to western culture.chapter2 embodiment of chinese-western culture penetration in kung fu pandakung fu panda describes the legend of the panda poe living in the valley of peace of ancient china，who changed from a lazy and gluttonous apprentice of a noodle shop into a brave soldier with magic martial arts and killed the evil tai lang for people in the valley. at last poe won reputation and respect and realized his own dream. this movie reflects the integration and connection of the elements of modern and traditional cultures as well as eastern and western cultures.as for the protagonist poe, it is a combination of the role and the image, as panda is the national treasure of china and is connected to the great and profound chinese kung fu in this movie. nowadays with the development of globalization, panda is not only the auspicious symbol of unity and progress but also the ambassador conveying friendliness and peace. whats more, kung fu panda skillfully combines the two chinese symbols together and is granted the double tasks of cultural lineage and communication. seeing from a more macro view, the growth of the panda poe is the symbol of the growing up of an ancient nation and the description of the national spirits recovery and awakening.2.1 chinese culture in languageit is well acknowledged that language and culture are closely and intricately related. culture is learned, transmitted and reflected through language, and language changes and develops along the tube of culture. language is the carrier of culture, the main expressional from of culture, which develops along with nation, country and societys development. language is a part of a nations culture. the different nationality has different culture, history, manners, custom and so on, but various nationalities culture and the social custom all display in this nationalitys language.language is a part of culture. some social scientists consider it as the keystone of culture. they maintain that culture would not be possible without language. on the other hand, language is influenced and shaped by culture: it reflects culture .in the broadest sense, language is the symbolic representation of a people, and it comprises their historical and cultural backgrounds as well as their approach to life and their ways of living and thinking. languages are diverse, so are cultures. it is only natural then that with differences in cultures and languages, difficulties often arise in communication between people with different cultural backgrounds.certain language always associates with certain history and culture. various languages could contain the culture background of the language. otherwise, probably that a word slice is solved, it is the important component of the culture, recording the historical development process of a nationality, a society in the language. the development of culture can enrich language and promote the development of language. at the same time, language is developed and abundant, which is the prerequisite of the whole cultural development. people usually say the language is a mirror which reflects culture. people can just practice certain national culture through studying languages. human culture is numerous, complicated and complicated, and it just has varieties of the human languages. as the relation between language and culture has been explained well, the thesis will then analyze the chinese culture penetration in kung fu panda in language.many chinese characters directly appear in the movie. for example, “fu” on the lantern of the noodle house;
