1、Workshop 5.1Free Vibration Analysis,Workshop 5.1 - Goals,Our goal is to investigate the vibration characteristics of a motor cover manufactured from 18 gage steel. The cover is to be fastened to a device operating at 1000 Hz.,Workshop 5.1 - Assumptions,The cover is meant to slip over a cylinder and

2、be constrained at the bolt hole locations. To simulate the area contacting the cylinder the surface has been split (see below). We will use a frictionless support on this surface to simulate the contact area. The frictionless support type applies a constraint that is normal to the surface, thus axia

3、l and tangential movement is allowed while radial motion is not.,To simulate the bolted connections a fixed support type will be used on the edges of the bolt holes.,Workshop 5.1 - Start Page,From the launcher start Simulation. Close out the “Map of Analysis Types” Import the 5 hole cover geometry:

4、From the context menu choose Geometry From file Browse to the file “Motor_Cover_5.x_t” to open it,Workshop 5.1 - Setup,Set the working Unit System: Units U.S Customary (in, lbm, lbf, F, s, V, A) Rename the Model: RMB Model branch Rename Model 5 Hole Cover,Workshop 5.1 - Preprocessing,Note : Since th

5、e model consists of surface geometry we will be shell meshing the parts. The first preprocessing task is to specify the thickness for the parts in both branches. Specify Part thickness: Highlight the “Part 1” branch. Note : The “Thickness” field is currently displayed in yellow to indicate it is und

6、efined. Also, the Part has a question mark next to it which means that it is not fully defined Click in the “Thickness” field and set “Thickness” = 0.05 in. Note : Entering a thickness for the part changes the status icon from a question mark to a check mark meaning that it is now fully defined.,Wor

7、kshop 5.1 - Environment,Set the Analysis Type: From the “New Analysis” Menu, select “Modal”. Apply supports to model: Make sure that you are in Face Select Mode. Select the cylindrical split face, RMB Insert Frictionless Support Switch to Edge Select mode and select the edges for each of the 5 holes

8、, RMB Insert Fixed Support,a.,b.,Workshop 5.1 Analysis Settings,Set Options for Modal Analysis: Highlight “Analysis Settings” to set the “Max modes to Find” (defaults to 6 modes),Workshop 5.1 - Solution,Note : As a final check verify the status symbols next to the branches. All branches should have

9、either: Yellow Lightening bolt (ready to be solved) Green check mark (completely defined) Solve the model.,Workshop 5.1 - Results,Select Mode shapes to view: Click on the “Solution” branch. This will display the “Timeline” and the “Tabular Data” showing a summary of the frequencies at which the diff

10、erent modes occur. In the “Tabular Data” section, Ctrl+Click the mode shapes that you want to select or RMB “Select All” to select all modes Note : This can also be done from the “Timeline” by clicking the mouse and dragging it to select the required modes or RMB Select All,a.,. . . Workshop 5.1 - Results,With the required mode shapes selected, RMB “Create Mode Shape Results”. This will insert the deformation mode shapes for the requested modes under the “Solution” branch.
