、the sound and the fury,喧哗与骚动,william cuthbert faulkner (18971962), also known as will faulkner, was an american writer and nobel prize laureate. faulkner worked in a variety of media; he wrote novels, short stories, a play, poetry, essays and screenplays during his career.,faulkner is primarily know

、n and acclaimed for his novels and short stories, many of which are set in the fictional yoknapatawpha county, a setting faulkner created based on lafayette county, where he spent most of his life,as i lay dying 我弥留之际 light in august 八月之光 absalom, absalom!,title, tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, c

、reeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time, and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. out, out, brief candle! lifes but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale to

、ld by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. act 5, scene 5 of william shakespeares macbeth, style and structure, the four parts of the novel relate many of the same episodes, each from a different point of view and therefore with emphasis on different themes and events. this structure

、makes any true synopsis of the novel difficult, especially since the narrators are all unreliable in their own way, making their accounts not necessarily trustworthy at all times. also in this novel, faulkner uses italics to indicate points in each section where the narrative is moving into a signif

、icant moment in the past. the use of these italics can be confusing, however, as time shifts are not always marked by the use of italics, and periods of different time in each section do not necessarily stay in italics for the duration of the flashback. thus, these time shifts can often be jarring a

、nd confusing, and require particularly close reading.,structure, the novel centers on the compson family, former southern aristocrats who are struggling to deal with the dissolution of their family and its reputation. over the course of the thirty years or so related in the novel, the family falls in

、to financial ruin, loses its religious faith and the respect of the town of jefferson, and many of them die tragically.,my comments on the structure,mr. faulkners method in this book is successful. he begins by giving a general and confused picture of this family (the first sixty pages are told by a

、 congenital imbecile. benjy has no sense of time, the whole of his thirty-three years are present to him in an streamless flood). however this rigmarole holds my attention. while reading, i was seeing the world through the eyes of an idiot, but so clever is the writer that, i was content to do so.,w

、ith the second part the fog begins to clear. the narrator is now quentin, one of those vague figures. with the third and fourth parts, which return to the present day, the fog rolls away altogether and the story quickens. its here that i had understood more of benjys sound and fury than ive realized

一家之长mr.compson是一九一二年病逝的。

quentin(小昆汀)是caddy寄养在母亲家的私生女。 ,my comments on this book, everyone who reads this book can read it a second time at least. to me, the essential quality of a book is that it appears different at every reading. the sound and the fury is such a book that can be read again and again. it is tremendously difficult to rea
