1.Scope
ThisJapaneseIndustrialStandardspecifiesgold-silver-palladiumalloysolders,hereafterreferredtoasthe"palladiumalloysolders",forsolderinggold-silver-palladiumalloyusedfordentalservice.

2.Quality
2.1AppearancePalladiumalloysoldersshallbehomogeneouswithametalliclusterandshallnotbecoveredwithforeignsubstancesonthe
surface.
2.2ChemicalcompositionThemaincomponentsofpalladiumalloy
soldersshallbeaminimumof158gold,aminimumtotalof308goldand
palladiumandaminimumof308silver,andwhentestedinaccordancewith
3.1,thechemicalcompositionshallnotbelessthanthenumericalvaluesdesignatedin5.(2).
2.3LiquiduspointWhentestedinaccordancewith3.2,theliquiduspointshallbe950Corbelow.

3.Testing
3.1Quantitativetesting
3.1.1PreparationandsamplingmethodofspecimensAfterremovingthesubstancessuchasstainsandfatadheringtothesurfaceofthe
palladiumalloysoldersbygrindingwithNo.800waterproofabrasivepaperspecifiedinJISR6253,finelycutintopiecesapprox.1mminwidthand
approx.0.2mminthickness,degreasewithpetroleumbenzine.

Washwithwater,dryinadesiccator,preparespecimensofapprox,0.5g,andweighprecisely.
out8sCalowDeterminationofgoldThedeterminationofgoldshallbecarried
(1)Transferthespecimensintoabeaker,add20mlofdilutednitricacid(1→2)(I),warminawaterbath,anddissolvetheelementsotherthangold.Ifwhiteprecipitateisproduced,quantifyit
bythemethodof3.1.3.
(2)Afterlettingitcool,addwarmwatertobringto50mlandfilterwithafilterpaperofclass5BspecifiedinJISP3801.Wash
theresiduetwotimeswithdilutednitricacid(1→100)(¹),
washwellwithwarmwateruntilthereactionofsilvernitrate
disappears,andcombinethewashingsandthefiltratetoserveasthesamplesolutionfordeterminationofsilverandpalladium.
(3)Afterdryingtheresiduewithfilterpaper,immediatelyincinerate
thefilterpaperinaporcelaincrucibleofaknownmassby
heating,heattoapprox.800Cuntilitbecomesagoldencolor,letitcoolinadesiccator,weighthemassofgold,repeatthisoperationuntilitreachesaconstantmass,andcalculatethe
contentofgoldusingthefollowingformula:

Note(1)Theindicationoftheconcentrationofasolutionby
(1→2)or(1→100)meanstheratioinwhich1gofsolidchemicalsor1mlofliquidchemicalsare
dissolvedwithwater,ete,to2mlor100mlintotalamount,respectively.
Thedeterminaeterogolaofpolddipaldisolderscoltarncgntainingtbecarriedoutasfollows:
(1)Evaporatethesamplesolutiontodryness,letitcool,add10mlofdilutednitricacid(1→2)(¹)and50mlofwarmwater,
gentlyboil,letstandfor1hour,filterwithfilterpaperofclass
5CspecifiedinJISP3801byaddingfilterpaperpulp,washwellwithwarmwater,andusethefiltrateandwashingsasthesamplesolutionfordeterminationofsilverandpalladium.
(2)Transfertheresidueintoabeaker,addapprox.15mlofaqua
regia(nitricacid/hydrochloricacid,1:3)todissolveit,concen-
tratebyevaporationintoasyrupystate,add5mlofhydrochloricacid,repeatthisoperationagain,add5mlofhydrochloricacid,
andthenadd50mlofwarmwaterandwarmthesolution.Afterfiltration,washtheresiduewellwithwarmwater.

(3)Combinethewashingswiththefiltrate,addwatertobringto
approx.200ml,warmatapprox.80°Cinawaterbath,anddripsodiumsulfitesolution(5→100)(¹)shakinggentlytodeposit
thegoldbyreduction.
(4)Whentheprecipitateofgoldhascondensedandthesolution
becomestransparent,add5mlofsodiumsulfitesolution(5→100)(¹)inexcess,andwarmfor30minutes,butdonotbringtoboil.Afterfiltratingtheprecipitatewithfilterpaperofclass5C
specifiedinJISP3801,treattheresidueonthefilterpaperinaccordancewith(3)of3.1.2,anddeterminethecontentofgold.
3.1.4DeterminationofsilverThedeterminationofsilvershallbecarriedoutasfollows:
(1)PlacethesamplesolutionintoabrownErlenmeyerflask,warmtoapprox.80℃,dripdilutedhydrochloricacid(1→6)(¹)while
stirring,producesilverchlorideprecipitate,add1mlofdilutedhydrochloricacid(1→6)(¹)inexcess,agethesolutionina
waterbath,andletstandinadarkplacefor8hoursormore.Filterwithfilterpaperofclass5CspecifiedinJISP3801,
washtheresiduewellwithdilutednitricacid(1→100)(¹),andusethefiltrateandwashingsasthesamplesolutionfordetermi-
nationofpalladium.
(2)Washtheprecipitateintoabeaker,dripwarmdilutedaqueous
ammonia(1→2)(¹)ontofilterpaper,anddissolvethesilver
chlorideonthefilterpaperandintheprecipitate.Afterwarm-
ing,dilutewithwarmwaterto150ml.Precipitatesilverchloride
againbydrippingdilutednitricacid(1→2)(¹),add1mlof
dilutedhydrochloricacid(1→10)(¹),stir,andwarmthesolution.
Gentlyboilfor5minutes,andletitstandinadarkplacefor
8hoursormore.
(3)Filterwithasintered-glassfilterofaknownmass(G4)andwashitfirstwithdilutednitricacid(1→100)(¹)andthenwell
withcoldwater,andcombinethefiltrateandwashingstothe
samplesolutionfordeterminationofpalladium.Dryatapprox.110°℃untilitreachesaconstantmass,letcoolinadesiccator,weighthemass,andcalculatethecontentofsilverusingthe
followingformula.

Thedeterminationofpalladiumshall
bec3riedoDeterfinationofpalladium
(1)Transferthesamplesolutionintoameasuringflaskof500mlincapacity,bringto500mlbyaddingwater,andaccuratelytake100mlofaliquot.Condensebyevaporationtoasyrupystate.Add5mlofhydrochloricacid,andrepeattheoperationof
condensationbyevaporationuntilthepalladiumhascompletelycombinedwiththechloride.
(2)Add5mlofhydrochloricacidandwarmwatertobringto300ml,andwarmtoapprox.80°C.Add25mlofdimethylglyoximealcoholsolution(1→100)(¹)whilestirring,precipitatethepalladium,
andagetheprecipitateofpalladiumdimethylglyoximebylettingitstandatapprox.80℃forapprox.1hour.
(3)Afteragingtheprecipitate,filterwithasintered-glassfilter
(G4)ofaknownmass,washwellwithwarmwater,andlastly
washwithethylalcohol(95/8ormorepure).Dryatapprox.110℃untilitreachesaconstantmass,letitcoolina
desiccator,weighthemass,andcalculatethecontentofpalladiumusingthefollowingformula.

3.2LiquiduspointtestMeltthepalladiumalloysoldersinacrucible,measurethechangeintemperatureduringcoolingwithathermometer,drawacoolingcurve,anddeterminetheliquiduspoint.
Forthistest,palladiumalloysolderswhichhasnotyetbeenusedshallbeused.
3.3Tensiletest
3.3.1TestpiecesThetestpiecesshallbethealloyedplate0.3mminthicknesswhichconformstoJIST6105.

3.3.3SolderingExcluding5mminwidthfromthecenterofthe
solderedpart,thetestpiecesshallbecoveredwiththeinvestmentmaterialandsolderedwithfluxspecifiedbythemanufacturerandapprox.0.05gofpalladiumalloysoldersfromonesideusingablow-pipeflameorthelike.
Immediatelyaftersoldering,theinvestmentmaterialshallberemovedtoletitcool.
3.3.4TestmethodThetensiletestshallbecarriedoutin
accordancewiththemethodspecifiedinJISZ2241untilthesolderedtestpieceisfracturedbytension.
3.4DiscolorationtestofsolderedpartAftersolderingthepalladium
alloysoldersinaccordancewith3.3.3onadentalwroughtgold-silver-
palladiumalloyplatewhichconformstoJIST6105asshowninFig.2,the
discolorationtestshallexaminethestateofdiscolorationoftestpiecesfully
immersedin50mlof0.18ofsodiumsulfidesolutionmaintainedatatempera-tureof37±2Cfor24hours(seeFig.3).
