noteswerealsoabletobetterrememberandunderstandtheconceptofthelecturea
weeklater,andweremoreopentounderstandingnewideas.
AccordingtoPamMueller,leadauthorofthestudy,“Ourfindingssuggesteven
whenlaptopsareusedasintended,theymaystillbeharmingacademicperformance.”
Partofthereasonisthatitwasfastertotakenotesonthelaptop,usingexactlythe
samewordsmeanttheyweren’ttrulyengagedinthecontent.Butnotetakersusingpen
andpapertendedtodigestthematerialbetterandcouldrephraseitintheirownwords.
Althoughtypingnotesusingexactlythesamewordscanhelpinrecallingfactsinthe
shortterm,ittakesthefocusawayfromthemainpointsofthelesson.“Ironically,the
