elixir,bytaking

would

ascendimmediately

to

heaven

become

a

celestial

Yi

hated

to

part

with

Chang

E,his

beautifulwife.So

hegave

the

elixir

to

her

to

keepitaway.Unexpectedly,

itwas

seen

by

Peng

Meng.

One

day,

afterHou

Yi

went

hunting,

Peng

Mengburst

into

the

room,forcing

Chang’eto

hand

over

the

elixir.

Incaseofemergency,Chang’e

took

the

elixir

and

swallowed

it

in

notime.Her

body

floated

off

the

ground,

dashed

out

of

the

window

and

flew

totheheaven.

Hou

Yi

hadnochoicebuttohavean

incense

table

arranged

in

the

back

garden,putting

sweetmeats

and

fresh

fruits

Chang’e

it.He

a

ceremony

for

Chang’e

in

the

palace

of

the

moon.

people

of

the

story,they

table

moonlight,praying

Butitwasverydifficulttopassthenewsof"Augustfifteennightuprising".Zhu’sadviser,LiuBowen,putforwardaplantohavetherallying

immortal,sohe

importunedanimmortaltoteachhim.Firsttheimmortal

taughthimhowtousetheherbs

tocuresickness,butafter

threedays,hischaracteristicrestlessnessreturnedandheaskedtheimmortaltoteachhimsomethingelse.Sotheimmortaltaughthimtoplaychess,butaftera

shortwhile,hisenthusiasmagainwaned.ThenWuGangwasgiventhebooksofimmortalitytostudy.Ofcourse,hebecameboredwithinafewdays,andaskedifthey

couldtraveltosomenewandexcitingplaces.AngeredwithWuGang'simpatience,themaster

banishedWuGangtotheMoonPalace,tellinghimthathemustcutdownahugecassiatree

beforehecouldreturntoearth.ThoughWuKangchoppeddayandnight,themagicaltree

gavehimnothing.Inordernottomakethepoormanhungry,therabbitsaid:"youeatmyflesh!"Withthewords,itwasabouttojumpintothefire.Movedbythekindnessofthehabit,thegodsenttherabbittothepalaceofthemoontoaccompanyChang'etomaketheelixir.Itissaidthattherewasagoddisguisinghimselfasapoorman.Hebeggedseparatelyforfoodfromafox,amonkeyandarabbit.

Themalerabbitreluctantlylefthiswifeandchildren,steppingonthecloudstoheaven.WhenhecametotheSouthernGateofHeaven,hesaw

ThemalerabbittoldthefemaleaboutChang'estory,sayinghewantedtosendachildtoaccompanyher.AlthoughthefemalerabbitdeeplysympathizedwithChang'e,butshedidn’twanttogiveupherpreciousdaughter,which
