thatourcountrynowhasnoneofthesethreescenarios.ThereforeIdon'tthink
itnecessarytoraisetheofficialretirementageatpresent.ShouldRetirement
AgeBeRaised?Whethertoraisetheretirementagehasbecomeahottopic
nowadays.Manypeopleseeincreasingtheretirementageasawaytohelp
addressthefinancialchallengesinthesocialsecurityfund.And,theysay,
therearecompellingdemographicreasonsforsuchachange——increasedlife
spans,increasedworkingcapabilities,andastructuraldemandfor
experiencedlabor.However,manymorewereagainstraisingtheretirement
age.Theyarguethatthepensionfundhasasurplusnow.Besides,aprolonged
lifespandoesn'tnecessarilymeanthatpeopleareabletoworklonger.More
importantly,raisingtheretirementagewouldputmorestrainonthealready
graveemploymentsituation.Addingworkingyearsforthosenowemployed
wouldmeanfeweropeningsforthenewjobseekerswhoareyoungerand
healthier.Personally,Ithinkthegovernmentshouldraisetheretirementage
onlywhenthereisseverelaborshortage,relativelyhighpensionpaymentsor
thegovernmentisinafiscalcrisis.However,it'sapparentthatourcountry
nowhasnoneofthesethreescenarios.Therefore,Idon'tthinkitnecessaryto
raisetheofficialretirementageatpresent.
6.OnBuyingSecond-handTextbooksInmostcampusestherearestuents
buyingsecond-handtextookswhichhavebeenusedbyseniorswhodonot
wantonkeepsomeoftheirtextbooksupongraduation.Therearetwomain
reasons.Oneisthatthepriceofbooksissohighthatsomestudentswantto
savemoney.Theotheristhatstudentswithsecond-handbooksarenot
necessarilybusytakingnotesinclassbecausetheformerownersofthebooks
havedonesoindetail.Furthermoreitiseasierforthestudentstoanswerfthe
teacher'squestionswithoutmakinganefforttodotheexercisesbythemselves.
Onthecontraryotherstudentsdonotagreetobuysecond-handbookscannot
bekeptcarefullythenabrokenbookwillprobablydampentheirlearning
spirits;secondthestudentsmayrelytoomuchontheansweersWhichalready
existinthetextbookswhichmakethembecomelazy.Itwillcertainlydoharm
totheirlearning.InmyopinionIprefernewbookstosecond-handones.
Althoughitcostsmoreitisworththeprice.OnBuyingSecond-hand
TextbooksInmostcampuses,therearestuentsbuyingsecond-handtextooks
whichhavebeenusedbyseniors,whodonotwantonkeepsomeoftheir
textbooksupongraduation.Therearetwomainreasons.Oneisthattheprice
ofbooksissohighthatsomestudentswanttosavemoney.Theotheristhat
studentswithsecond-handbooksarenotnecessarilybusytakingnotesinclass
becausetheformerownersofthebookshavedonesoindetail.Furthermore,
itiseasierforthestudentstoanswerftheteacher'squestionswithoutmaking
anefforttodotheexercisesbythemselves.Onthecontrary,otherstudentsdo
notagreetobuysecond-handbookscannotbekeptcarefully,thenabroken
bookwillprobablydampentheirlearningspirits;second,thestudentsmay
relytoomuchontheansweersWhichalreadyexistinthetextbooks,which
makethembecomelazy.Itwillcertainlydoharmtotheirlearning.Inmy
opinion,Iprefernewbookstosecond-handones.Althoughitcostsmore,itis
worththeprice.
7.DoesHeroismStillWork?Heroismusedtobeassociatedwithpeople'sideal
isnowbelievedbythepublicasoutofdate.Forthemheroismisabeliefthat
emphasizesindividuals'leadingroleinthedevelopmentofhumancareersbut
today'sworldcharacterizedwithcomplicatedsocialdivisionoflaborrequires
thattheindividualcooperatewithotherpeopleandthustheirroleinthesocial
lifeisweakened.Soheroismcannolongermeetthedemandsofthetimes.
Ironicallyheroismdoesexistinthereallifeformanypeoplestillcherish
heroismasadreamoranidealwhichinreturnguidestheirthinkingand
behavior.ForexamplemanyNBAstarsarehailedassuperheroesandbecome
partoftheidealofthepublic.Therearealsomanygirlsdreamingofbecoming
so-called"supergirls"soastobefocusedonbythepublicasoneswith
outstandingabilities.Nomatterwhetheritiscorrectornotthisphenomenon
demonstratesacontradictionintheattitudeofthepublictowardsheroism.For
methiscontradictioncanbeinterpretedasacompromisebetweenthesetwo
parties.Thatistosayindividualsintoday'sworldshouldlearntocooperate
withotherswhiletheycanalsocherishabitofheroismthatwillinspiretheir
initiativeandthusfulfilltheirpotential.Inthissenseheroismisstill
necessary.DoesHeroismStillWork?Heroism,usedtobeassociatedwith
people'sideal,isnowbelievedbythepublicasoutofdate.Forthem,heroism
isabeliefthatemphasizesindividuals'leadingroleinthedevelopmentof
humancareers,buttoday'sworld,characterizedwithcomplicatedsocial
divisionoflabor,requiresthattheindividualcooperatewithotherpeopleand
thustheirroleinthesociallifeisweakened.Soheroismcannolongermeet
thedemandsofthetimes.Ironically,heroismdoesexistinthereallife,for
manypeoplestillcherishheroismasadreamoranideal,whichinreturn
guidestheirthinkingandbehavior.Forexample,manyNBAstarsarehailed
assuperheroesandbecomepartoftheidealofthepublic.Therearealso
manygirlsdreamingofbecomingso-called"supergirls"soastobefocused
onbythepublicasoneswithoutstandingabilities.Nomatterwhetheritis
correctornot,thisphenomenondemonstratesacontradiction
