ThetextbookusedinthislessonisUnit3WarandPeaceUsinglanguageinForeignResearchEdition(2019)OptionalpulsoryVolume3byFLTRP.Thisunitmainlyfocuseson"warandpeace",andintroducestheuseofadverbialclausesofconcessionandconcessionaryconjunctionsthroughashortpassageaboutwaranniversary.

Teachingobjectives:

1.Knowledgeobjective:Studentswillbeabletounderstandandmasterthebasicusageofadverbialclausesofconcessionandconcessionalconjunctionsthroughthislesson.

2.Abilityobjective:Studentscancorrectlyuseadverbialclausesandconcessionalconjunctionsinpracticalapplication.

3.Emotionalgoal:Tocultivatestudents'feelingsofrespectandloveforpeacebystudyingthearticlesaboutwarRemembranceDay.

Teachingfocus:

1.Letstudentsunderstandthefunctionandbasicusageofadverbialclausesofconcession.

2.Helpstudentslearntouseconcessionaryconjunctionsanduseadverbialclausesofconcessionaryclausesinappropriatecontexts.

Teachingdifficulties:

1.Helpstudentsunderstandthedifferenceandusagebetweenadverbialclausesofconcessionandadverbialclausesofcondition.

2.Guidestudentstocorrectlyuseadverbialclausesofconcessioninpracticalapplication.

Analysisoflearningsituation:

Studentsareseniortwostudents,alreadyhaveacertainEnglishfoundation.Asthisunitfocusesonwarandpeace,studentsmayhavesomeconcernandunderstandingofwarandsocialissues.Studentsareweakingrammarknowledgeandmayhavedifficultiesinplexclausestructuresandtheuseofconnectives.

Teachingstrategy:

1.Presentpictures,videosandothermultimediamaterialstoarousestudents'interestinwarandpeacetopics.

2.Usecaseanalysisanddiscussiontoinspirestudentstothinkabouttheuseofadverbialclausesandconcessionaryconjunctionsandthelogicbehindthem.

3.Usemindmappingandsummarytohelpstudentsclarifythestructureandcharacteristicsofgrammarknowledge.

Teachingmethod:

1.municativeteachingmethod:Throughgroupcooperationandinformationexchange,studentscanuseadverbialclausesofconcessionandconcessionalconjunctionsinrealcontexts.

2.Situationalteachingmethod:Throughrealcases,groupdiscussionandotherways,studentscanapplythegrammarknowledgetheyhavelearnedtospecificsituationstoimprovetheirlanguageapplicationability.

3.Inductiveteachingmethod:Byprovidingalargenumberofexamplesentencesandmodelsentences,summarizethebasicstructureandusageofadverbialclausesofconcessionandconcessionalconjunctionsonthebasisofstudents'use.

Throughtheabovedesign,studentscanimprovetheirlanguageskills,mastertheuseofadverbialclausesofconcessionandconcessionalconjunctions,andcultivatetheirfeelingsofrespectandloveforpeaceinactivitiesandinterestingteachingenvironments.

Teachingcontent:Introducestudentstotheunderstandingofwarandpeace

1.Theteachertakesoutabookaboutwarandshowsthecoverofthebooktothestudentstogettheirattention.

2.Theteacheraskedthestudentsafewquestions,suchas:"Doyouknowwhatwaris?"Whatwarshaveyouheardof?"Encouragestudentstorespondpositivelyandrecordtheirresponses.

Classroominteraction(approx.35minutes):

Content:Studyandusethelanguagepointsinthetext

1.Theteacherdividedthestudentsintogroupsandassignedashortstorytoeachgroup.Thegroupmemberswereaskedtotellthestoryintheirownwordsandthenwritethestoryoutlineonthepaper.

2.Eachgrouptakesturnsreportingtheirownstoryanddiscussingthemeaningandvaluesbehindthestorywiththeothergroups.

3.Guidestudentstothinkaboutthecontrastbetweenpeaceandwarshowninthestoryandencouragestudentstoexpresstheirownopinionsandideas.

4.Guidestudentstoanalyzekeysentencesandexpressionsinthetext,andaskstudentstodiscussandsummarizegrammarandvocabulary.

5.Theteacherdesignsagroupactivityforstudentstodiscussanddemonstratehowtospreadtheideaofpeaceinreallife,andencouragesstudentstousethelanguagepointsinthetext.
