proteinhadauniquesequence.In1958,SangerwasawardedtheNobelPrizeinChemistryfor

scientiststoanalyzeanyproteininthebody.

HewentontothinkabouttheideasofhowDNAcodesforproteins.Togetherwithanother

scientist,Sangerpublishedthe“PlusandMinusTechnique,“asequencingproceduretodetermine

theorderofthechemicalbaseswhichspelloutthegeneticcodeforalllivingthings.Whenhe

designedamoreefficientmethodin1977,henameditthe“SangerMethod".The"SangerMethod^^

allowslongstretchesofDNAtoberapidlyandaccuratelysequenced,whichearnedhimhis

secondNobelPrizeinChemistryin1980.

Thismethodeventuallyallowedscientiststodecodethethreebillionlettersofthehuman
