Theparknowreceivesaround2millionvisitorsayear,withroughlyaquartertakingatourofthecaves-
everythingfromaculturaltourtothemoreadventurousscramblingtoursonoffer.Thecavesupportsmorethan130
wildlifespecies,suchastheeyelesscavefish,(29)hasadaptedtothelightlessenvironmentbynolonger
growingeyes,andthecavecrayfish.
MammothCaveNationalParkisalsomuchmorethanjustacave;itssurroundingforestcontainsoneof(30)

mostcommontypeofdementia,Alzheimer'sdisease,whentheybuildupinthebrain.
TheresearchersfoundthatpeoplewhoexhibitedhigherRNTpatternsexperiencedmorecognitivedeclineovera
four-yearperiod,anddeclinesinmemory(whichisamongtheearliersignsofAlzheimer'sdisease),andtheyweremore
likelytohaveamyloidandtaudepositsintheirbrain.
