NOTE:Anabnormalnoiseduetomalfunctionofthelashadjusterisproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengineandchangeswiththeenginespeed,irrespectiveoftheengineload.If,theabnormalnoiseisnotproducedimmediatelyafterstart-ingtheengineordoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed,oritchangeswiththeengineload,thelashadjusterisnotthecausefortheabnormalnoise.
NOTE:Whenthelashadjusterismalfunctioning,theabnormalnoiseisrarelyeliminatedbycontinuingthewarming-upoftheengineatidlespeed.
However,theabnormalnoisemaydisappearonlywhenseizureiscausedbyoilsludgeintheenginewhoseoilisnotmain-tainedproperly.

Starttheengine.
Checkiftheabnormalnoiseproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengine,changeswiththechangeintheenginespeed.
Iftheabnormalnoiseisnotproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengineoritdoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed,thelashadjusterisnotthecauseforthenoise.Therefore,investigateothercauses.Theabnormalnoiseisprobablycausedbysomeotherpartsthantheengineproperifitdoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed.(Inthiscase,thelashadjusterisingoodcondition.)
Withtheengineidling,changetheengineload(shiftfromNtoDrange,forexample)tomakesurethatthereisnochangeinthelevelofabnormalnoise.
Ifthereisachangeinthelevelofabnormalnoise,suspectatappingnoiseduetoworncrankshaftbearingorconnectingrodbearing(Inthiscase,thelashadjusterisingoodcondition.).
Aftercompletionofwarm-up,runtheengineatidletocheckforabnormalnoise.

NOTE:Afterparkingformanyhours,oilmayrunoutfromtheoilpassageandtaketimebeforeoilissuppliedtothelashadjuster,causingairtoenterthehighpressurechamber.
NOTE:Intheabovecases,abnormalnoisecanbeeliminatedbybleedingthelashadjustersystem.

Checkengineoilandaddorchangeoilifrequired.
NOTE:Iftheengineoillevelislow,airissuckedfromtheoilscreen,causingairtoentertheoilpassage.
NOTE:Iftheengineoillevelishigherthanspecification,oilmaybestirredbythecrankshaft,causingoiltobemixedwithalargequantityofair.
NOTE:Ifoilisdeteriorated,airisnoteasilyseparatedfromoil,increasingthequantityofaircontainedinoil.
NOTE:Ifairmixedwithoilentersthehighpressurechamberinsidethelashadjusterfromtheabovecauses,airinthehighpressurechamberiscompressedexcessivelywhilethevalveisopened,resultinginanabnormalnoisewhenthevalvecloses.Thisisthesamephenomenonasthatobservedwhenthevalveclearancehasbecomeexcessive.Thelashadjustercanresumenormalfunctionwhenairenteredthelashadjusterisremoved.
