Ifanabnormalnoise(chatteringnoise)suspectedtobecausedbymalfunctionofthelashadjusterisproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengineanddoesnotdisappear,performthefollowingcheck.

NOTE:Anabnormalnoiseduetomalfunctionofthelashadjusterisproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengineandchangeswiththeenginespeed,irrespectiveoftheengineload.If,theabnormalnoiseisnotproducedimmediatelyafterstart-ingtheengineordoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed,oritchangeswiththeengineload,thelashadjusterisnotthecausefortheabnormalnoise.

NOTE:Whenthelashadjusterismalfunctioning,theabnormalnoiseisrarelyeliminatedbycontinuingthewarming-upoftheengineatidlespeed.

However,theabnormalnoisemaydisappearonlywhenseizureiscausedbyoilsludgeintheenginewhoseoilisnotmain-tainedproperly.

Starttheengine.

Checkiftheabnormalnoiseproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengine,changeswiththechangeintheenginespeed.

Iftheabnormalnoiseisnotproducedimmediatelyafterstartingtheengineoritdoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed,thelashadjusterisnotthecauseforthenoise.Therefore,investigateothercauses.Theabnormalnoiseisprobablycausedbysomeotherpartsthantheengineproperifitdoesnotchangewiththeenginespeed.(Inthiscase,thelashadjusterisingoodcondition.)

Withtheengineidling,changetheengineload(shiftfromNtoDrange,forexample)tomakesurethatthereisnochangeinthelevelofabnormalnoise.

Ifthereisachangeinthelevelofabnormalnoise,suspectatappingnoiseduetoworncrankshaftbearingorconnectingrodbearing(Inthiscase,thelashadjusterisingoodcondition.).

Aftercompletionofwarm-up,runtheengineatidletocheckforabnormalnoise.

NOTE:Intheabovecases,abnormalnoisecanbeeliminatedbybleedingthelashadjustersystem.
