Letusseehowtheeyeworks.Whenwelookatanobject—aperson,ahouse,orwhateveritmaybe—wedonotseeallthedetailsoftheobjectinonepiece.Weimaginethatwedo,butthisisnotthecase.Infact,theeyebuildsupthepictureforusinourbrain,whichcontrolsoursight,inmillionsofseparateparts,and,althoughwedonotrealizeit,allthesedetailsareseenseparately.Thisiswhathappenswhenwelookatsomething.Beamsoflightofdifferentdegreesofintensity,reflectedfromallpartsoftheobjects,strikethelensoftheeye.Thelensthengatherstogetherthespotsoflightfromthesebeamsandfocusesthemontoalight-sensitiveplate—theretina—atthebackoftheeyeball.Inthiswayanimageoftheobjectisproducedontheretinaintheformofapatternoflights.
