Entrepreneurship

TheAllianceandits100+membersrepresentover100,000social
entrepreneursandbringtogetherarichandgrowingecosystemof
corporations,investors,philanthropists,governments,researchers,media,andindustryactors.Itfocusesonmainstreamingsocialinnovationby
helpingprivatesectoractorsbuildpartnershipswithsocialentrepreneursandtheirintermediaries,bycreatingmulti-stakeholderpartnershipsfor

Wearefacingsignificantinstability,polarisation,anddisenfranchisementinatimeofgeopolitical,social,andenvironmentalchallenges.With
justsevenyearslefttomeetthegoalsofthe
2030AgendaforSustainableDevelopment,thechallengeswefacehaveonlygrowninscale
andcomplexity.
Inthiscontext,theworkofsocialinnovators
continuestobenotonlyrelevant,effective,andimpactful,butalsofundamentalinchangingthestatusquoacrossmanyaspectsofdailylife,
suchashealthcare,education,povertyalleviationandtheeffectsofclimatechange.
Weareinspiredbytheseleadersinsocial
innovationwhoareplayinganoutsizedrole
inimplementinglocalsustainablesolutions–
andonaglobalscale-thatarechangingthe
systemsinwhichweliveforthebetter.Throughvalues-basedapproachesfocusedoninclusivity,collaborationandsustainability,thiscommunityofleadershasdirectlyimprovedthelivesofover891millionpeoplearoundtheworld,while
overcomingandtransformingpersistentandsystemicchallenges.Theirprovenapproaches
offeralternativemodelstoothersandcontinuetodemonstratethatsuchmodelscantransformsocietyandbeeconomicmodelsofsuccess.
Theworldisnowpayingattentiontothefullpotentialofsocialinnovators.InApril2023,theUnitedNationspassedthefirstresolutionrecognisingthesocialandsolidarityeconomy
anditscontributiontowardssustainable
developmentagenda.Researchhasshown
thatactorsoperatingintheeconomyunder
diversemodelsbutwithacommonambition
tocreateamoreinclusiveandsustainable
economicparadigm,accountforabout7%of
grossdomesticproductworldwideandincreaseemploymentacrosseconomies1.Thesemodelsofferahugeopportunityforpeopleandplanetandhavebeenshowntobemoreresilientthanmanytraditionaleconomicsectors,provingbothagileandeffectiveinsustainingemploymentandcreatingeconomicvalue.
Thetransformationtakingshapeinour
economic,societal,andenvironmentalsystemsthroughsuchsocialinnovationrequiresbraveandboldleadership.Forsuchleaderstocontinuetoflourishandforsuchmodelstobeadoptedintomainstreampractices,decisionmakersneedtoscaleupandfasttrackthepoliticalrecognition,investment,andinfrastructurenecessaryforthemtothriveforthebenefitofall.

In2020,wereleasedourfirstcomprehensive
impactreport,TwoDecadesofImpact,that
providedacompellingoverviewofthereach
andscopeoftheorganizationsintheSchwab
Foundationcommunityonmanycomplexissuesinover190countries.
Theprocessofcompilingthatreportalso
providedcrucialinsightsintohowweatthe
SchwabFoundationcouldfurtherourimpact.Bybuildingonourclosepartnershipwith
theWorldEconomicForum,collaborating
withsocialinnovatorsandengagingwith
publicandprivatesectors,wecanhelp
mainstreamsocialinnovationasaprovenwayofacceleratingprogressacrossthesustainabledevelopmentagenda.
ThroughourannualSocialInnovationAwards,
wecontinuetobuildacommunityofleaders
implementinghigh-impactmodelsacrossthe
world.We’vealsoexpandedourworktohelp
embedsocialinnovationinthepublicandprivatespheresandhighlightthefundamentalnecessityofinnovationinorganizingourcollectiveeffortstoachievecommongoals.

AllianceforSocialEntrepreneurship.TheAlliancehasemergedasaplatformtomobilizeprivate
andpublicsectorleadershipstoworkalongsidesocialentrepreneursinadvancingkeyagendas.
Throughallouractivities,weaimtocatalyse
theadoptionofprovenimpactmodelsacross
sectorsandacceleratethetransformationoftheworld’ssocialandenvironmentalsystems.We
undertookthisnewimpactassessmenttobetterunderstandthedirectandsystemicimpactsthatsocialinnovatorsachieve.
Fromthesocialinnovatorssurveyedinourreport,welearnedthatmostarepartneringwithother
organizationstoscaletheircollectiveimpactandinfluencestakeholderstowardsinstitutionalandpolicychange.Thosecollaborationsaretrulytakingplaceacrossthefullbreadthofglobalsociety:27%arewiththepublicsector,26%privatesector,24%civilsocietyand23%philanthropicorganizations.
Socialinnovatorsinthiscommunityareaimingforandachievinghighergoalsastheydivedeeper
todrivetransformative,sustainedchange.Whatmakesthemsodistinctisthewaytheyinvest
theirworkwithapowerfulbeliefinhumanbeingsandtheircapacityforself-determination.Whenequipped,empoweredandtrusted,peoplecanchangetheirownfutures,aswellasthelivesandtheecosystemsaroundthem.
Aswecontinuetoconfrontchallengingtimes,thisreportunderlinesthatsocialinnovatorsprovide
visibleprogressandalsogreathope–tothe
citizenstheyworkwith,tothenaturalecosystems
theyrestoreandforamorehumaneandsustainableglobalcommunity.
