基于语料库的广播英语新闻报道文体分析的中期报告Abstract:Thismid-termreportisbasedonalargerresearchprojectfocusedonanalyzingthediscourseofEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromChinaRadioInternational.Specifically,thisreportaimstoprovideanoverviewoftheresearchdesign,methodsandpreliminaryfindingsofthestudy.Thereportfirstintroducesthetheoreticalframeworkbehindtheanalysis,whichemphasizestheimportanceofdiscourseanalysisinunderstandinghownewsbroadcastsconstructmeaningandshapepublicperceptions.Next,thereportdescribestheresearchpopulationandsamplingstrategy,aswellasthedatacollectionprocessandannotationprocedures.Thereportthenprovidesanoverviewofthelinguisticfeaturesidentifiedinthecorpus,focusingongenre-specificfeaturessuchasgrammaticalstructures,lexicon,anddiscoursemarkers.Finally,thereportsummarizesthepreliminaryfindingsofthestudy,whichsuggestthatEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromChinaRadioInternationalarecharacterizedbyadiscursivestylethatcombinesobjectivityandsubjectivity,andthatlanguagechoiceandlinguisticstrategiesplayanimportantroleinshapingpublicperceptionsandattitudes.Introduction:ThegoalofthisstudyistoanalyzethediscourseofEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromChinaRadioInternational(CRI),withafocusontherhetorical,pragmatic,andstylisticfeaturesthatshapetheconstructionofmeaninginthenews.Drawingonawiderangeoftheoreticalframeworksfromdiscourseanalysis,criticaldiscourseanalysis,andrhetoric,thestudyaimstoanswerthefollowingresearchquestions:1.WhataretherhetoricalandpragmaticfeaturesofEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromCRI,andhowdothesefeaturescontributetotheconstructionofmeaninginthenews?2.Howdoeslanguagechoiceandlinguisticstrategiesinnewsbroadcastscontributetoshapingpublicperceptionsandattitudestowardsevents,issues,andpeoplerepresentedinthenews?3.WhatcananalysesofEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromCRItellusaboutthediscursivepracticesandideologiesofthisnewsorganization,andhowdothesepracticesandideologiesreflectandshapelargersocial,political,andculturalcontexts?TheoreticalFramework:Thestudyisgroundedintheideathatthediscourseofnewsbroadcastsisakeysiteforunderstandinghowmeaningisconstructedandnegotiatedinthepublicsphere.Throughdiscourseanalysis,wecanidentifythelinguistic,rhetorical,andpragmaticstrategiesthatnewsbroadcastsusetoconstructandrepresentthenews,aswellasthesocial,cultural,andhistoricalcontextsthatshapetheseconstructions.Thestudydrawsonarangeoftheoreticalframeworks,includingcriticaldiscourseanalysis,rhetoric,genretheory,andsociolinguistics,toilluminatethecomplexandmultifacetednatureofdiscursivepracticesinthenews.ResearchDesign:Toaddresstheseresearchquestions,wecollectedacorpusofEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromCRIspanningfromJanuary1st,2020toJune30th,2021.OurresearchpopulationwasdefinedasallEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromCRIduringthisperiod.Weusedastratifiedsamplingapproachtoensurethatourcorpusincludedarepresentativerangeofgenresandtopics,andthatthedatareflectedthediversityofvoicesandperspectivespresentinthenews.Intotal,ourcorpusconsistedof300newsbroadcasts,eachapproximately5minutesinlength.DataCollectionandAnnotation:Wecollectedthedatausingarangeoftechniques,includingwebscraping,manualdownloads,anddirectrequeststoCRI.ThedatawasthentranscribedandannotatedusingtheCorpusProcessingSoftwareANTCONC.Wefocusedonannotatingthelinguisticfeaturesthatweremostrelevanttoourresearchquestions,includinglexicalitems,grammaticalstructures,anddiscoursemarkers.Weusedamixofquantitativeandqualitativeanalysismethodstoidentifypatternsandthemesinthecorpus,includingfrequencyanalysis,collocationanalysis,andcriticaldiscourseanalysis.PreliminaryFindings:Ourinitialanalysisofthecorpussuggestsanumberofinterestingfindings.Firstly,wefoundthatEnglishnewsbroadcastsfromCRIarecharacterizedbyadiscursivestylethatcombinesobjectivityandsubjectivity,withafocusonpresentingfactualinformationwhilealsoconveyingaparticularperspectiveandvoice.Secondly,wefoundthatlanguagechoiceandlinguisticstrategiesareusedtoconstructandshapepublicperceptionsandattitudestowardsvariousevents,issues,andpeoplerepresentedinthenews,highlightingthediscursivepowerofnewsmediainshapingopinionandknowledge.Lastly,weobservedarangeofgenre-specificfeaturesinthecorpus,includingtheuseofnominalization,passivevoice,andmetaphorinnewsreports,highlightingtheimportanceofgenreanalysisinunderstandingtheconstructionofmeaninginthenews.Conclusion:Inconclusion,thismid-termreportpresentsanoverviewofourresearchdesign,methods,andpreliminaryfindings.Wehopethatthisreportprovidesausefulframeworkforanalyzingthediscourseofnewsbroadcasts
