Chinaiswidelyknownitsancient(civilise)hascontinuedallthewaythroughintomoderntimes,despitethemanyupsdownsinitshistory.Therearemanyreasonsthishasbeenpossible,butoneofthemain(factor)hasbeentheChinesewritingsystem.
