Introduction
ThefirstseatofGearTraxwassoldin1998.TheoriginalGearTraxwasprogrammedusingVisualBasicandislimitedto32bitcompiling.ThenewGearTraxisprogrammedusingVisualStudio.WehavetriedtoretaintheuserfriendlyinterfaceoftheoriginalGearTraxbutincorporatethethatweredevelopedforourGearTeqproduct.WhilemanyfeaturesofGearTeqarenowavailablewiththenewGearTrax,someoftheadvancedfeatureswillnotbeavailable,suchasprofilemodificationandcrowningandnetarygearsetstomentionafew.WeliketosaythenewGearTraxhasreceivedafaceliftandabraintransnt!
GearTraxisanobjectoriented/propertydrivengeardesignprogram.ItisnottheintentofGearTraxtoreceyourCADsystembuttoaugmenttheCADsystemwithauserinterfacethatwillallowthegeardesignertoaccura yvisualizethecomponentsbeforetheyaremodeledintheCADsystem.
GearTraxhasapredeterminednumberofcomponents.Forexample,thespurtabalwayshas2gears,apinionandagear.Forbevelgearsthisisimportantbecausebevelsarenormallydefinedasaset.Thenumberofteethinbothgearsdefinessuchpropertiesasthepitchangles.WhenGearTraxcreatesinCAD,theusercanselectbetweencreatingonlytheindividualmodelsorthemodelsandtheassembly.
GearTraxisprogrammedintheUSAusing100%renewableenergy.

Enterthepitchdiameterofthemastertestgear,ifavailable.Byitself,thisvaluehasnoeffectontheactualgeometryofthegear.Toenterorviewthisvalueclickontheinspectionbutton(pictureofacaliper).

Thetestradiusofthemastergearplusthetestradiusofthisgearequalsthesetupcenterdistanceforacompositeactiontest.Ifatestradiusforthemastergearhasbeenentered,GearTraxwillcalculatethetestradiusofthisgear.
Thetestradiuscsobeusedtocalculatethetooththicknessofagear.Ifatestdiameterforthemasterhasbeenenteredandatestradiusforthisgearisthenentered,GearTraxwillcalculatetheaddendummodificationcoefficientforthisgeartoachievethepropertooththicknessinconjunctionwiththeperfectmastergear.Theuserwillbepromptedtousethiscalculatedvalueornot.Toenterorviewthisvalueclickontheinspectionbutton(pictureofacaliper).
