hadalsochangedhumanrelations.Onecannowbereachedvirtuallyanytime,anywhere.Althoughtechnologyhasmadehumanrelationseasierintheworkplace,ithasalsodecreasedtheamountofface-to-faceinteraction. Notallworkplaceinteractionischangingforthebetter.Thethreatofviolencehasbeenanincreasedconcernformanycompanies.Violenceintheworkplaceisblamedforthedecreasingqualityofhumanrelationsinmanycompanies.Inthepast,manypeopleconsideredtheirco-workersasakindofextendedfamily,whichgavethemasenseofsecurity.Intoday'sworkplace,however,layoffsanddownsizinghavetakenawaythatfamilyfeeling.Workerstodayfeelasthoughtheyarejustonepartofamachine,andcouldeasilybereplaced.Thishasdegradedthequalityofpersonalinteractionintheworkplace.Aco-workerwhoatonetimemayhavebeenlikeabrothertoyouisnowacompetitorwhocouldeasilyreplaceyou.Thisfeelinghaslessenedthefriendlinessbetweenworkersandhasledtoincreasedworkplaceviolence. andinvadingourschoolsaswell.Toooftenweareseeingchildreninflictingharmonotherstudentsinwhatshouldbeasafeandsupportiveenvironment.Schoolstodayarechanginginmanyofthesamewaysastheworkplace.Advancingtechnologyandgrowing

diversityarehavinganimpactontheenvironmentofschoolsacrossthenation.Theseaspectsofchangearehavingmanypositiveinfluencesonthequalityofeducationavailabletoourstudents.AdvancesincomputersandtheInternetmakelimitlessamountsofinformationaccessibletostudents.Culturaldiversityinschoolshelpschildrentolearnatayoungagethattherearemanythingsthatcanbelearnedfromotherpeople'scultures.Thesechangesareveryimportanttosocietyasawholebecausetheyindicatethatfuturegenerationswillbemoreacceptingofdifferencesandbetterabletoaccommodateothers.

Anotherimportantareathathasseenchangesinthe1990sisthestructureandroleofthefamily.Intoday'senvironmentthetraditionalfamilyasitwasknowninthepastisnolongerthenorm.Therearemanyfactorscontributingtotheincreasingnumberofnon-traditionalfamilies.Theeaseofobtainingadivorceandtheincreaseinteenagepregnancieshasledtosmallerfamiliesandmoresingleparentfamilies.Manysingleparentsareoverwhelmed

withtheresponsibilitiesofraisingachild,andinsomecasestheparentisstillateenager,andnotyetmaturehimselforherself.Anothergrowingnon-traditionalfamilytypeisaresultofinter-racial.Notonlyisthestructureofthetypicalfamilychanging,butthewaychildrenarebeingraisedischangingaswell,includingdecreasedqualityandquantityofcommunication,decreasedinteractionandinterestinthelivesofotherfamilymembers,anddecreasedabilityofparentstomanageandcontrolthebehavioroftheirchildren.Parentstodayaretimidtopunishtheirchildrenphysicallybecausetheyareafraidthatthechildmayclaimchildabuse.Thecurrenttrendistoseekalternativeapproaches,suchascounseling,asawaytoalterbehavior.

Thereforemanyparentsendupunabletodisciplinetheirchildrenandletthemdoastheyplease.Parentsneedtobeinvolvedintheirchildren'slivesandencourageschoolworkandinvolvementinextracurricularactivities.Parentsthatshowaninterestintheirchild'slifewillhaveachildthatismorelikelytodevelopgoodmoralsandmakegooddecisions.Manyoftheproblemchildreninoursocietyaregettingintotroubletogainattentionbecausetheylackthisattentionfromtheirownfamilies.Thesechangesinthetypicalfamilyseemtobeamajorfactorinthegeneraldeclineinthenatureofhumanrelations.Withoutastrongfamilysupportsystem,childrenaregrowingupwithweakermoralsandincreasedsusceptibilitytopeerpressure

andviolentoranti-socialtendencies.Thetypicalfamilyhaschangedsomuchrecentlythatitisdifficulttoavoidtheseproblems.Familymembersarebusy,schedulesarehectic,andqualityfamilyinteractionisconsequentlydiminished. Nearlyeverydaypeoplefacesituationsinwhichtheyinteractwithstrangers.Theseinteractionsareverycommon,sinceonenaturallymeetsnewpeoplewhilegoingaboutone'sdailyroutine.Thenatureofhumanrelationsbetweenstrangersiscomplexanddependentuponcertainsituations.Mostofthetimetheseinteractionsarepoliteorattheleastnon-committal.Unfortunately,thereseemstobeatrendinrecenttimestowardsdistrustandoutrightviolenceinagrowingpercentageofthesedailysocialinteractions.Anexampleisroadrage,oraggressivedriving,becomingmoreandmoreprevalentinoursocietyandanothertrendinsocietytodayissituationsinwhichpeopleperformrandomactsofkindness.-----n.
