InadditiontoPsychologyIhavealsostudiedSociology,PhotographyandFilmStudies.StudyingPsychologyhasgivenmeamorein-depthunderstandingofhumanbehaviourandinteraction,whichIcanrelateintoeverydaylife.StudyingSociologyhasenhancedmyunderstandingofthesocietyweliveinandhowitfunctions.Thesesubjectshavedemandedcommitmentandtimemanagementandhaveimprovedmycomprehensionandanalyticalskills.

Participationinclubsandworkplacementshasenabledmetodevelopkeycharacterattributes.WhenonworkexperienceatajuniorschoolIwasabletoadvancemycommunicativeskills,thisallowedmetoteachchildrentoreadandtoexpressthemselvesusingparagraphsandgrammarcorrectly.WhilstworkingasaRecreationAssistantIhavebecomemoreconfidentwithworkingaroundbothadultsandchildren;Ihavelearntvaluablepeopleandobservationalskills.AfewyearsagoIjoinedStJohnCadetswhereIhavelearntfirstaidskills.ThroughstructuredinterviewsandpresentationsIwaschosentorepresentNorthEastWalestocompeteforcadetoftheyear.Iamalsoablackbeltinkarateandhavehelpedothersimprovetheirtechnique.

Ihaveenjoyedanactiveroleinschoollife.Whilstat______SchoolIwasappointedasPrefectandIwasnominatedbymypeerstoactasFormCaptain.AsaresultIwastrustedtovoicethebeliefsofmypeersandhenceIhavedevelopedkeypeopleskills.Inaddition,Ihavehelpedtoorganisesportsday,theharvestfestivalandschoolopendays.

InmysparetimeIenjoyreading;myfavouritebooksinclude:‘TheCuriousIncidentofthedogintheNighttime’,booksbyDanBrownand‘HarryPotter’.Ialsoenjoyswimming,goingtomylocalgym,walkingandsocialising.

ThecareerIamhopingtogointoonceI’vefinishedthecoursewouldbetojointhepoliceforceorwithinprison’sasaforensicpsychologist.Iamveryinterestedinhelpingreformcriminalswhilstinsideprisonandonparoleandhavealwaysbeeninterestedtofindouthowthecriminalmindworksandwhytheycommittedthecrime.Thiscoursewillleadmeintothiscareerandopenupmanyopportunitiestoworkwithandhelpcriminals.

Thedesiretoknowmoreaboutthenaturehasmotivatedmetostepintothebroadworldofscience.IhavecultivatedmygreatinterestinphysicsandalotofrelatedfieldssinceIwasveryyoung.Iwasarmedwithstrongfoundationinphysicsduetomythreeyears’timeinTianjinNankaiHighSchool(oneofthemostfamoushighschoolsinChina).

IntheSeptemberof2000,IenteredUniversityofScienceandTechnologyofChinaandbecameamemberofphysicsdepartmentsincethen.Duringtheperiodofhardtryingtoadaptthenewlife,bothmyknowledgeandmymaturityhaveremarkablygrownandIfinallygotoverallGPA3.5/4.0,andmajorGPA3.8/4.0.MyhardworkingfinallyearnedmetheOutstandingStudentScholarshipin2023.

Mytwoyears’researchinStructureResearchLaboratoryofUSTChasbroughtmetoamoreextensiveandpracticalfieldofphysics.ServedasanundergraduateresearchassistantinProfessorXianhuiChen’sgroup,Ihavedevotedmostofmytimetotheresearchandmyknowledgeincondensedmatterphysicsanditsrelatedfieldhavegreatlyincreased.Ihaveobtainedallthebasicexperimentalskillsinaveryshorttimeandinordertokeepwiththepaceofthelatestachievementinmyresearchfield,Ihavespentalargeamountoftimeinreadingrelatedjournals,suchasAppl.Phys.Lett.,J.Appl.Phys.,Phys.Rev.B,Phys.Rev.Lett.,J.SolidStateChem.andsoon.

Atthebeginningof2023,Ibeganmysystematicalworkinexploringthegrowingmethodandtransportpropertyinvestigationsinhole-dopedsinglecrystalBSLCO(Bi2Sr2-xLaxCuO4+y)seriesandelectron-dopedNCCO(Nd2-xCexCuO4-y)series.Myworkwasfocusedonthesinglecrystalpreparationandphysicalpropertymeasurement,especiallythetransportpropertyandmagneticproperties.Aftersomanytimesofattemptofmethod,Isuccessfullygrewagreatdealofsinglecrystalswithhighquality.Moreover,Ihavespentsomanydaysandnightstogetherwithmycolleaguesinlabmeasuringtheresistanceofthesamples.Wefinallyobtainedplentyofmeaningfuldataandbyanalyzingthenormalstateproperty.Later,Ihavesubmittedapapertitled“Field-inducedlog(1/T)divergingresistivitydeviationfromnormalstateinsuperconductingcuprates”toEurophys.Lett.in2023asthethirdauthor.However,myworkwasnotstoppedandwithfurtherinvestigationinthe2Dweaklocalizationsystemisstillgiven.Meanwhile,Ihavegotseveralpaperssubmittedtotheinternationaljournalsthisyear.

Besides,throughthework,Iobtainedalmostalltheskillsofmanipulationofthecorrespondinginstrumentsfromphysicalpreparationtocharacterization.What’smore,Icanskillfullyusesoftware,(GSASandetc),toanalyzethestructureofthematerialthroughX-raydiffractiondata.Actually,thehappinessIgainedfromthecooperationwithothersandtheapproachofthephysicssciencewasgreater.Ioftenhavediscussionwithothermembersinmygrouponthecurrentencounteredproblemandnewideasforresearch.Duringtheweeklygroupmeeting,weexchangedourviewsonourcurrentresearchprojectandIhavelearnedalotthroughthiscommunication.

Meanwhile,Inevergiveupsearchingformoreextensiveandchallengingfield.Actually,someofmypresentworkisfrommyownidea.Forinstance,Ihavegrownsomesinglecrystalsofhighlyefficientthermoelectricmaterials,suchasBi2Sr2CoO6+y,Ca3Co4O9,aimedtofindtherelationshipbetweenthemisfitstructureofCoO2layerandthehighthermoelectricity,magneto-resistanceandmagneto-power.What’smore,Ihavepaidextraattentiontotheupdatetechniqueinsynthesizingthenanowiresandnanoparticles.Igraspedanumberofmethods,suchasmicro-emulsion,hydrothermalmethod,sol-gelandothersoftchemicalwaystosynthesizethenanoscalematerials.Undertheavailablecondition,IamsynthesizingthenanoscalesuperconductingmaterialYBCOandnanowiresofmagneticmaterials,suchasLa0.5Ba0.5MnO3.

DuringmyexploringofthenovelpolycrystallineCo1212andFe1212,Irealizedtheimportanceofcooperation.Becauseofthelimitationofexperimentalcondition,oursamplescannotbecomesuperconducting.Inordertosolvetheproblem,wecooperatedwithInstituteofPhysicsofChinaAcademicSciencetoobtaintheextremepressure.Irealizedthecooperationwithinandwithoutagroupequallyimportant,andsometimesaccomplishmentisgainedunderseveralgroupsofpeople.WealsohavedonesomeworkinYBCOthinfilmtransportproperty,collaboratedwithprofessorC.L.ChenofSuperconductingCenterTexas,U.S.A.

Inaddition,Ihavealsoattendsomeofothersub-group’sresearchproject,suchasusingsol-gelmethodtogrowRu1212,NaCoO2transportpropertyinvestigationandcolossalmagnetoresistancematerialspreparation.What’smore,Ihavealsoattendedthe7thNationalSuperconductivityConferenceandNationalAnnualConferenceofPhysicsin2023.

Researchinterestandfutureplan

Ihaveaccumulatedalargeamountofknowledgeincondensedmatterphysics.Iamgreatlyinterestedinthelowdimensionsystem,highlycorrelatedelectronsystem.Thepastworkonnanostructurematerialsandthinfilmalsoamazedmetodofurtherresearchintheseareas.Also,Ihavebeenlookingforwardstoreachawiderfieldinphysicalscience.Aftertwoyears’researchexperienceinStructureResearchLab,myexperimentalabilityhasbeengreatlydevelopedandmypotentialforresearchhasalsobeenproved.Ibelievetheappropriateareasformetotakeresearchworkmaybemoreextensive.Myexperiencebothinphysicsandchemistryshoulddowelltomyadvancedstudy.IbelieveIfitforotherrelatedfields,suchasparticlephysics,highenergyphysics,aswellasbiophysics.
