ImgratefulthatIvebeengiventhisopportunity,atsuchahistoric

moment,tostandhereasaspokesmanofmygenerationandtotakeaseriouslook

backatthepast15years,acrucialperiodforeveryoneofusandforthis

nationaswell.

Thoughitisonlywithinmypowertotellaboutmypersonalexperience,and

onlyatinyfragmentofitatthat,itstillrepresents,Ibelieve,therootof

aspiritwhichhasbeenessentialtomeandtoallthepeoplebredbythepast

15years.

Inmyelementaryyears,therewasalittlegirlintheclasswhoworked

veryhardbutsomehowcouldneverdosatisfactorilyinherlessons.

Theteacheraskedmetohelpher,anditwasobviousthatsheexpecteda

lotfromme.butasayoungboy,restless,thoughtless,Ialwaystriedtoevade

hersoastogetmoretimetoenjoymyself.

Onedaybeforethefinalexam,shecameuptomeandsaid,Couldyou

pleaseexplainthistomeIwantverymuchtodobetterthistime.Istarted

explaining,andfinishedinahurry.Pretendingnottonoticeherstillconfused

eyes,Iranoffquickly.Natsurprisingly,sheagaindidverybadlyintheexam.

AsIgrewup,changedandimprovedbythisincidentandmanyothersimilar

ones,Ibegantoperceivethechangestakingplacearoundmeandtofindthat

society,inaway,wasinitsformativeyearslikemyself.Newbuildings,new

commoditiesandnewfashionsappeareveryday.

Newideas,newinformation,newtechnologies.Peoplecantalkwitheach

otherfromanycorneroftheearthinamatterofseconds.Societyisbecoming

morecompetitive.

Wordslikeindividualityandcreativityaregettingmoreemphasisandmore

peoplearerewardedfortheirhardworkandefforts.Suchistheerainwhich

thisgeneration,growsandmatures.

Suchistheerainwhichthisgenerationwilltakeoverthenationfromour

fathersandlearntorunit.Yetinthemeantime,manyproblemsstillexist.

Welearnthatcrimestakeplaceinbroaddaylightwithcrowdsofpeople

lookingonandnotassisting.Wehearthattherearestillabout1million

childreninthiscountrywhocantevenaffordtogotoelementaryschoolswhile

enormoussumsofmoneyarebeingsquanderedawayondinnerpartiesandluxury

cars.

Webuyshoddymedicines,ormerelyworthlessjunkinthenameofmedicines,

thataggravate,ratherthanalleviateourdiseasessincemoney,manypeople

believe,isthemostimportantthingintheworldthatmustbemade,evenatthe

expenseofmoralityandresponsibility.

Suchanera,therefore,determinesthatweareagenerationwithakeener

senseofcompetitionandefficiencyandagreaterreadinesstothinkcritically

andactcreatively.

Suchanera,furthermore,demands,thatweareagenerationwithaclear

perceptionofourhistoricalresponsibilityandanaggressivewilltotake

actionandsolvetheproblems.Historyhaslongbeenpreparingthesequalities

inthisgenerationanditisnowcallingusforwardtogivetestimonytoour

patriotismandheroismtowardsthisnationandallhumanity.

Standingherenow,Ithinkofthepast15yearsofmylifeasanordinary

student.ProbablyIllbeanordinarymanfortherestofmylife.Butthis

doesntdiscouragemeany,forIknowthatwithmysenseofresponsibilityand

devotedeffortstoalwaysstrive,forthebest,itsgoingtobeameaningful

andworthwhilelifethatIwillbeliving.

Standingherenow,Ithinkofthepast15yearsofthisnation,whichhas

achievedgreatnessthatinspiredmillionsofpeopleofmyage,mostofwhomwill

notattainfameorprestigeandonlyafewofwhomwillberememberedby

posterity.Butthatdoesntdiscourageusany,becauseweknowthattheworld

watches,theworldlistens,theworldiswaitingtoseewherethisnationwill

beheadinginatimeofrichopportunitiesandfiercecompetition.

Icanteverforgetthatlittlegirlinmyclasswhocouldnthadthesame

opportunitiesasanyofusheretoenjoyawonderfullifetodayandahopeful

worldtomorrow.

Itisthesacredresponsibilityofthisgenerationtofaceuptothe

challengesofthenewcenturyandtodevoteoursweatandblood,ourwisdomand

passion,tothehistoriccauseofmakingthisnationagreaterandhappierland

foreveryoneofus.

Wearenotgoingtoevadethatresponsibility.Wearegoingtoletpeople

down.Andpeople,farandnear,willhearofus.Frostwillbebroughttotheir
