PAGEPAGE1工业工程专业英语课程教学研究IndustrialEngineeringEnglishCurriculumTeachingResearchAbstractWiththedevelopmentofglobalization,Englishhasbecomeanimportanttoolincommunication,especiallyfortheindustrialengineeringprofession.ThisarticleaimstoanalyzeandproposeacurriculumdesignforanindustrialengineeringEnglishcourse.Theresearchisbasedonliteraturereview,interviewswithprofessors,andsurveysofindustrialengineeringstudents.Theproposedcurriculumcoversreading,listening,speaking,andwritingskills.Itfocusesonprofessionalvocabulary,technicalwriting,communicationinengineeringprojects,andculturalawareness.Theresearchsuggeststhatthecurriculumshouldbedesignedinawaythatisengaging,interactive,andpracticalforthestudentstoachievemaximumbenefit.Keywords:Industrialengineering,Englishcurriculum,reading,listening,speaking,writingIntroductionIntoday'sglobaleconomy,communicationacrossculturesandlanguageshasbecomeincreasinglyimportant.Englishhasbecomethemostwidelyspokenlanguagearoundtheworld,especiallyinbusinessandengineering.Asaresult,proficiencyinEnglishhasbecomeacrucialskillforprofessionalsinthefieldofindustrialengineering.Industrialengineeringisanengineeringprofessionthatdealswiththeoptimizationofcomplexsystems,processes,andorganizationsforimprovementinproductivity,quality,andefficiency,amongotherthings.ThepurposeofthisarticleistoresearchandproposeacurriculumdesignforanindustrialengineeringEnglishcoursethatisbothapproachedasimprovingthegeneralEnglishproficiencyofthestudentsandalso,enhancingspecificlanguage-relatedskillsthatarenecessaryforprofessionalsinthefieldofindustrialengineering.LiteratureReviewTheintegrationofEnglishlanguagecurriculuminengineeringandtechnologycoursesisatopicofinterestinmanystudies.MoststudiesagreethatEnglishlanguageproficiencyisessentialforindividualswhostudyorworkintheengineeringandtechnologyfields.AccordingtoNwosuandOnoniwu(2019),Englishlanguageproficiencyisoneofthefundamentalrequirementsforengineeringgraduatestosucceedintheirprofession.Moreover,Razmjoo(2018)assertsthatproficiencyinEnglishenhancestheemployabilityandcompetitivenessofengineeringgraduates.AccordingtoTavakoliandMonajemi(2016),theroleofEnglishlanguageproficiencyintheeducationofengineeringstudentshasbeenrecognizedasasignificantfactorfortheirsuccessintheirfields.Inthefieldofindustrialengineering,astudycarriedoutbyVardanandSemih(2016)aimedtoidentifytheindustrialengineeringstudents'languagerequirements.ThestudyfoundthatcommunicationskillsinEnglishwerethemostcruciallanguageskillsthatindustrialengineeringstudentsneedtoacquire.Oneofthecrucialfindingswasthatstudents'languagerequirementsintheindustrialengineeringprogramsfocusheavilyonthedevelopmentoforalandwrittencommunicationandthecomprehensionoftechnicalterms.Furthermore,otherstudiesindicatedthatthecontentsofthelanguagecurriculummustrelatetothespecificneedsofindustrialengineeringstudents.Theauthenticmaterialsshouldrevolvearoundthechallengesandneedsofindustrialengineeringfields,emphasizingtheusageofprofessionalvocabulary,technicalwriting,teamworkskills,andculturalawareness.(GolshanandMoghaddas,2016;Sharifianetal.,2017;Talibetal.,2020)CurriculumDesignBasedontheliteraturereview,ourresearchteamanalyzedanddevelopedanindustrialengineeringEnglishcurriculumthataimstoimprovetheEnglishproficiencyofthestudentsandisspecifictotheneedsoftheindustrialengineeringfield.Thecurriculumisdesignedforbothbeginnersandadvancedlearnersandincludesfourmodules:Reading,Listening,Speaking,andWriting.ReadingSkillsThereadingmoduleaimstointroducestudentstovarioustextgenresrelatedtothefieldofindustrialengineering,includingacademicpapers,technicalreports,andmanuals.Themoduleprovidestechniquesandstrategiesforbettercomprehension,criticalthinking,andextractingessentialinformationfromthetexts.Italsoemphasizesthevocabularythatindustrialengineeringstudentsarelikelytoencounterintheirclassesandfieldwork.Authenticmaterials,suchasarticlesfromprofessionaljournals,technicalreports,andmanuals,willbeusedtoshowcasehowEnglishisusedeffectivelyintheindustry.ListeningSkillsThelisteningmoduleaimstohelpstudentsunderstandspokenEnglishinaprofessionalenvironment.TheywillbeexposedtovariousformsofspokenEnglish,suchaslectures,speeches,presentations,podcasts,andinterviews.Thismoduleemphasizesactivelistening,note-taking,andunderstandingtechnicaltermsandexpressionsthatareoftenusedintheindustry.SpeakingSkillsThespeakingmoduleprovidesstudentswithopportunitiestopracticetheirspeakingskillsinvarioussettings.Themoduleincludesformalpresentations,businessnegotiation,andinformalconversations.Studentswillworkinpairsandsmallgroupstosimulaterealprofessionalsettingswheretheymayhavetodeliverpresentations,engageindebatesordiscussongoingprojects.Themoduleaimstoenhancestudents'confidenceinusingEnglishinprofessionalsettings.WritingSkillsThewritingmoduleaimstoenhancestudents'abilitytowritethedocumentsthatarecommoninindustrialengineering,suchasreports,proposals,andtechnicaldocuments.Thismoduleemphasizestheuseofappropriatewritingstyle,persuasivewriting,andclearcommunication.Studentswillanalyzeexam
