muscleandbrainmass.WhenledWestern-styledietshighinfatandsugar,themicenotonlybecamefatter,but
alsogrewintoadultsthatprefenedunhealthyfood.
Toobtainthefindings,theresearchersdividedtheyoungmiceintofourgroups-thosewithaccessto
exercise,thosewithoutaccess,thosefedastandard,healthydietandthosewhoateaWesterndiet.Micestarted
theirdietsimmediatelyafterweaning(断奶),andcontinuedwiththemforthreeweeksuntiltheyreached
adulthood.Afteranadditionaleightweeksof“washout”,duringwhichallmicewerehousedwithoutwheelsand
onahealthydiet,theresearchersdidabehavioralanalysisandmeasuredlevelsofseveraldifferenthonnones(激

Oneofthosetheymeasured,leptin,isproducedbyfatcells.Ithelpscontrolbodyweightbyincreasing
energyconsumptionandsignalingthatlessfoodisrequired.Early-lifeexerciseincreasedadultleptinlevelsin

morethanasaltwatercrocodileofanequallength.Sotheyarelookingtowardsmanyhundredsofkilos.Studying
thedetailsofthebonewillbringhintsnotonlytothealteringstateofAustralia'senvironmentfromancienttimes
tillnow,butalsotohowthisspecificcrocodilevariesfromotherspeciesthatareknown.
