Partofthereasonfortheincreasedpressureonschoolsisthattherearenowfewer‘earlyintervention’(干预)andlow-levelmentalhealthservicesbasedinthecommunity.Cutstolocalauthoritybudgetssince2010haveresultedinasignificantdeclineoftheseservices,despitestrongevidenceoftheireffectivenessinpreventingcrisesfurtherdowntheline.
Theonlywaytobreakthepressuresonbothmentalhealthservicesandschoolsistoreinvestinearlyinterventionservicesinsideschools.
Therearestrongargumentsforwhyschoolsarebestplacedtoprovidementalhealthservices.Schoolsseeyoungpeoplemorethananyotherservice,whichgivesthemauniqueabilitytogettohard-to-reachchildrenandyoungpeopleandbuildmeaningfulrelationshipswiththemovertime.Recentstudieshaveshownthatchildrenandyoungpeoplelargelyprefertoseeacounsellorinschoolratherthaninanoutsideenvironment.Youngpeoplehavereportedthatforlow-levelconditionssuchasstressandanxiety,aclinicalsettingcansometimesbedaunting(令人却步的).
