“Good”SpreadsheetModelsUseRelativeandAbsoluteReferencestoSimplifyCopyingFormulasWhenevermultiplerelatedformulaswillbeneeded,trytoentertheformulajustonce,andthenuseExcel’sfillcommandstoreplicatetheformula.Thismakesthemodeleasertobuildandalsoreducestypos.UseBorders,Shading,andColorstoDistinguishCellTypesForexample:Datacellsinblue(noborder)Changingcellsinyellow(regularborder)Targetcellinorange(heavyborder)ShowEntireModelonSpreadsheetAlldatashouldbevisible.Allconstraintsshouldbeonthespreadsheet(notburiedinSolver),preferablyinthreeconsecutivecells.ThreeTestsfora“Good”SpreadsheetModelYoushouldbeabletoimmediatelyidentifythedatacells,changingcells,andtargetcell.Allelementsofthemodelshouldbevisibleonthespreadsheet(includingallconstraints).YoushouldnothavetolookintheSolverdialogueboxtofigureoutthemodel.Eachequationshouldbesimpleenoughthatyoucantellwhattheequationisineachoutputcellwithoutlooking.APoorSpreadsheetModelDebuggingaSpreadsheetModel:TheTogglePressingcontrol-~togglesback-and-forthbetweenshowingvaluesandshowingformulasinthespreadsheet.DebuggingwiththeAuditingToolbarThebuttonthirdfromtheleftcanbeusedtotracethedependentsofacell,t
