21、fwars.Ithashelpedbringindependencetocolonies.ThemainUnitedNationsorganizationisinNewYorkCity,buttheUNhasa“family”ofotherrelatedotheworld.Theseorganizationstrytoprovideabetterlifeforeveryone.OneexampleisUNICEF,anorganizationthatprovidesfood,medicalcare,andmanyotherservicesforpoorchildrenwherevertheyl

22、ive.AnotherexampleistheWorldHealthOrganization,whichdevelopsmedicalprogramsallovertheworld.TherearethousandsofUNworkersindevelopingcountries.Theyworkasplannerstoincreaseproductioninfarmingandindustry.Theyprovidemedicalservices,improveeducationprograms,andspreadscientificinformation.Theydevelopprogra

24、cialyears,peopleworktogethertoimprovesituationsandsolveproblems.OneyearwastheInternationalYearoftheChild.Forcenturiescountrieshavefoughteachother,andpowerfulcountrieshavetakencontrolofweakerones.Itisverydifficulttopersuadenationstolivetogetherinpeace.Nevertheless,theUnitedNationsisattemptingtodothis

25、.Itistheonlyorganizationthatunitestheworldinthesearchforpeace.TheUnitedNationswasorganizedatameetinginCaliforniain1945.TheUnitedNationsworksforinternationalpeace.KuwaitisamemberoftheUNICEF.TheUnitedNationshasitsmainorganizationinSanFrancisco.TheUnitedNationshelpedAlgeriabecomeindependent.UNICEFisano
