10、分)When John Muir was 11 years old, his family moved from Scotland to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. John was good with tools and soon became an inventor. Muir took the president through Yosemite, and Roosevelt helped get laws passed to create Yosemite National Park in 1906.Although Muir won many conservation battles, he lost a major one. He fought to save the
15、Hetch Hetchy Valley, which people wanted to dam in order to provide water for San Francisco. In late 1913, a bill was signed to dam the valley. Muir died in 1914.
