32、ableforthefluidthathasthehigherpressure,orthehighertemperatureorismorecorrosive.Thetubesideislesslikelytoleakexpensiveorhazardousfluidsandismoreeasilycleaned.Bothpressuredropandlaminarheattransfercanbepredictedmoreaccuratelyforthetubeside.Accordingly,whenthesefactorsarecritical,thetubesideshouldbese

33、lectedforthatfluid.TurbulentflowisobtainedatlowerReynoldsnumbersontheshellside,sothatthefluidwiththelowermassflowpreferablygoesonthatside.HighReynoldsnumbersareobtainedbymultipassingthetubeside,butataprice.Asubstantialnumberofparametersisinvolvedinthedesignofashell-and-tubeheatexchangerforspecifiedt
