You are all well prepared for todays writing.Step II ReadingT: The play King Lear is based on a very old story. Shakespeare, used the story but changed it a little

6、to suit his own purpose. Read this summary of the old story. While reading, please pay more attention to conclude the characteristic of a summary. You can have a discussion. Three minutes later, collect the students answers.S1: We should use third person to write a summary.S2: A summary should be br

So when you write a summary, you should remember these requirements.Step III Writing 1T: Now work in groups. Choose a story you have enjoyed reading and tell it to the people in the group. If necessary, the teacher can give the students some guidance.T: You have told some of your favorite stories. Please discuss which of these stories would make a good play and then choose one of them to wor

9、k on. You are given 3 minutes to do it.T: Now that you have chosen your favorite stories. Using the summary of THE THREE DAUGHTERS OF THE KING as a model. Work together to write a summary of the story. You are given 15 minutes to do it.Sample writing:Bassanio is desperately in need of money to court

10、 Portia, a wealthy heiress who lives in the city of Belmont. So he asks Antonio, a merchant of Venice, for a loan in order to court Portia. Antonio agrees, but his own money is all invested in a number of trade ships that are still at sea. To aid Bassanio in his courtship, he borrows money from Shyl

11、ock, a Jewish moneylender, who has been insulted by Antonio. Shylock lends the money on condition that, if the loan is not paid in three months, he may cut a pound of flesh from Antonios body. With this money, Bassanio goes to Belmont and accepted by Portia in marriage. But news comes that Antonios

12、ship doesnt return on time and cannot pay the money. Shylock demands Antonios pound of flesh. The case is brought before the court. At the critical moment, a young doctor of law arrives at the court. She appeals to the Shylock for mercy, but in vain. So she warns him that he must fulfill the very le

13、tter of his bond, taking no more and no less than one pound of flesh, and spilling no drop of blood. Seeing him thus cornered, Shy lock has to obey the verdict of the court. Portia reveals her identity to Bassanio. At the same time, the joyful news arrives that Antonios ships have in fact made it ba

14、ck safely. The group celebrates its good fortune.Step IV Writing 2T: Turn to Page 65. Find the summary of the story that your group wrote on Page 20. Now, follow the steps to turn your story into a play. You are given 15 minutes to have a discussion and then write it down.The teacher shows the requi

15、rements on the slide or read the book.15 minutes later, the teacher asks some students to read their plan in class.T: Time is up. The moral message is that as a man, we should be merciful, warmhearted and generous and that a friend in need is a friend indeed.S2: We divide the story into 3 parts. The first part is Antonio lends money from Shylock in order to help Bassanio. The second part is Ba

19、ssanio courts Portia to marry him. The third part is that Antonio cannot return the money on time, so the case is brought before the court.S3: We choose the third part of the story. The lines of main parts are as follows.Shylock:Ive promised to take my pound of flesh, if: you do not let me have it,

20、that will be a sign of weakness and no one will trust your laws any more. Antonio is my enemy, and I hate him. If you offered me six times what you have just offered, I would still take my pound of flesh. Give me my pound of flesh! I have done nothing wrong and I fear no judgment. I desire my pound

21、of flesh. Why must I have mercy on him? Tell me that! Good sir. I beg for mercy and beg your pardon.Take my life too! My money and goods are as dear to me as life itself. They are my only comfort. When you take those away from me, you also take my life.I promise. Let me go home now. I am not well.Po

22、rtia:Then Shylock must be merciful. He must have mercy on Antonio.Use your head a little, sir! We cannot change a law. If one law is changed, then people will later want to change other laws.I see. According to the law, Shylock may have a pound of flesh to be cut off by him nearest to Antonios heart

23、. Be merciful! Let me destroy this paper.Take your pound of flesh! I declare the court allows it and the law gives it to you.Wait! There is something else. Antonio has promised to give you a pound of his flesh. But he has not promised to give you any of his blood. If you let one drop of his blood fall, you will lose all your land and all your money.You must cut off one pound of flesh, no more, no less. And not one drop of blood must fall. Shylock turns and starts to leave the court.Wait, Shylock. The law of Venice says that if any one tries to kill or murder any citizen of Venice,
