Liquid cycles in the alumina packing were generated by periodic induction of gas and/or liquid phase in distinctive slow-mode. Hyd

4、rodynamics were characterized with respect to liquid saturation and liquid saturation distribution varying period length, split and time-averaged superficial gas and liquid velocities. The sensors technique allows direct access to local phenomena during liquid pulse breakthrough, to distribution pat

5、terns and their reproducibility at different cycle positions that were studied based on transient liquid saturation distribution data of different periodicity variables. Due to simultaneous measurement at four different axial reactor positions, pulse attenuation along the reactor and pulse velocity

6、could be analyzed. Furthermore, hydrodynamics of different modes of gas-induced periodic cycling, e.g. gas cycling only, asynchronous and synchronous cycling of gas and liquid flow rate and alternating gasliquid cycling, were studied.Article Outline1. 11、lation column involving reactions with high thermal effect is really effective for the reduction of utility consumption and capital investment besides the improvement in process dynamics and operation. One important issue that remains unstudied so far is the influences of reaction selectivity upon t

12、he reinforcement of internal heat integration, since the reaction operation is often accompanied by side-reactions and the maintenance of a high selectivity is extremely necessary in process synthesis and design. A reactive distillation column synthesizing high-purity ethylene glycol through the hyd

13、ration of ethylene oxide is chosen and studied in this work. Because of the unfavorable physicochemical properties of the reacting mixture separated (e.g., the fairly large volatility between the reactants and the existence of a consecutive side-reaction), the process represents a challenging proble

14、m for the reinforcement of internal heat integration. Intensive comparison is conducted between the process designs with and without the consideration of further internal heat integration between the reaction operation and the separation operation involved, and it has been found that seeking further

15、 internal heat integration still leads to a substantial reduction of energy requirement, in addition to a further abatement in capital investment. Moreover, a favorable effect is again observed upon the process dynamics and operability. These striking outcomes manifest evidently that seeking further

The method involves developing and analyzing plausible narratives of the future and evaluating them for a range of implications. The power of scenarios lies in creating and considering compellin

26、g stories about the future. Thus, narrative, defined as an account of a series of events, is central to the process and plays a pivotal role in engaging participants in a scenario analysis exercise. While a good scenario story can engage individuals and influence their suspension of disbelief, we kn

27、ow little about how participants actually respond to the scenarios so they can, and will, suspend disbelief in scenario outcomes. We explored the role of narrative in suspension of disbelief in a scenario-based study of the long-term future of Canada's forests and forest sector. We discovered th

28、at specific aspects of the scenario narratives themselves influenced participants suspension of disbelief. While interacting with the scenario narratives, participants actively worked to suspend disbelief by creating new narratives or accessing other existing ones, and by projecting themselves into

29、the scenarios as characters in the stories. Our results may help scenario writers, practitioners, and researchers understand what, in one project, cued people's abilities to suspend disbelief and engage productively in discussions about possible futures.Article Outline1.
