Learning aims: (1)Ability goals: The students are supposed to :1) understand a material by predicting, scanning, silent reading, discussion and further understanding in order to gain effective reading strategies.2)

2、use all that they have learnt to talk about the passage and think in a positive and logical way. 3) improve their ability of guessing the meaning of the new words according to the context and enlarge their vocabularies.(2)Target language: 1. New words: yell; smirk; mimick; tease; limp 2. Meaning ext

3、ensions of some words: mean, top; head, round, etc.(3)Emotion goals:1) Get students to realize that everyone wants and deserves to be treated with respect, dignity and warmth;2) Having a positive attitude towards life is important.3) Helping people in need is also necessary.2. Teaching procedures:St

4、ep1, Leading-inAsk the students to listen to the song Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, talk about something about the traditional western festival Christmas. Step2, Fast reading Ask the students to scan the passage and find out the answers to the two questions: 1.What is Amys wish ? 2. Why did she mak

5、e such a wish?Step3, Ask the students to write what theyd like to do to help Amy.Step4, After the students read the ending of the story, ask the students about what they will do if they have problems in their life.Step5, Ask the students to think of a title for the passage.Step6, Comprehension readi

As Amy Taylor rounded the corner across the hall from her classroom, she knocked into a tall boy from the fifth grade running in the opposite direction.2.“Watch it !” The boy yelled as he su

8、ddenly moved away around the little third-grader. Then, with a smirk on his face, the boy took hold of his right leg and mimicked the way Amy walked. Amy closed her eyes. Dont care about him, she told herself as she headed for her classroom.3. But at the end of the day, Amy was still thinking about

9、the tall boys mean teasing. It wasnt as if he were the only one. It seemed that ever since Amy started the third grade, someone teased her every single day. Kids teased her about her speech or her limping. Amy was tired of it and felt all alone.4. Back home at the dinner table that evening, Amy was

10、quiet. Her mother knew that things were not going well at school. “Theres a Christmas wish contest on the radio station,” Amys mom announced. “Write a letter to Santa, and you might win a prize. I think someone at this table with blonde curly hair should enter.”5.Amy smiled. The contest sounded like

11、 fun. She started thinking about what she wanted most for Christmas. Then an idea t came to her. Out came pencil and paper, and Amy went to work on her letter. “Dear Santa Claus,” she began.6. While Amy was writing at her best printing, the rest of the family tried to guess what she might ask from S

12、anta. Amys sister, Jamie, and Amys mom both thought a three-foot Barbie doll would top Amys wish list. Amys dad guessed a picture book. But Amy wasnt ready to reveal her secret Christmas wish just then. Here is Amys letter to Santa:7. Dear Santa Claus,My name is Amy. I am nine years old. I have a pr

13、oblem at school. Can you help me Santa? Kids laugh at me because of the way I walk and run and talk. I just want one day where no one laughs at me or makes fun of me.Love, AmySecond Part:8. Lets see what happened after Amys letter arrived at the WJLT radio station:9. The manager of the radio station

14、 read it carefully and he thought it would be good for the people to hear about this special third-grader and her unusual wish. So he called up the local newspaper.10. The next day, a picture of Amy and her letter to Santa made the front page of the local newspaper. The story spread quickly. 11. Env

15、elopes of all sizes addressed to Amy arrived daily from children and adults all across the nation. During that unforgettable Christmas season, over two thousand people from all over the world sent Amy letters of friendship and support. 12. Amy did get her wish of a special day without teasing at her

16、 School. Teachers and students talked together about how bad teasing can make others feel.13. That year the city mayor announced December 21 as Amy Taylor Day. The mayor explained that by making such a simple wish, Amy taught an important lesson. “Everyone,” said the mayor, “wants and deserves to be
