2、ble Ninth Festival in Chinese traditional culture rather then the deep meaning of it. In any event, whether we should celebrate foreign festivals have become a subject of heated discussion.Of course, there are two voices about this discussion. In the one hand, some believe that celebrating

3、 western festivals is a phenomenon of globalization. They argue that our society is an open society. Taking in various of foreign cultures will make our society more colorful and our civilization can live a more interesting life.For the young people in college, celebrating foreign festival

4、s are an effective way to know more about other cultures, which are useful for them in there study. In another hand, some conservative persons see the western festivals as a kind of cultural aggression, which may lead our young generations losing our traditional culture. So, in their mind

5、we should drive the foreign festivals out and sparkplug our native festivals, such as to open a course in school to tell the students the origins of various Chinese festivals, to carry out more characteristic activities to celebrate the native festivals, to dissolve some fashionable elements in our

6、traditional culture to catch the attention of our young people.All in all, each side has its own view. In my opinion, as we are a member of our country, we should learn and insist on our traditional culture in the first. The second, none of us could obstruct the movement of globalization,

7、so, a good comprehension of various foreign cultures is quite necessary. But there is no reason for us to abandon our own culture, because only a country has its own culture could it stand in the world. The third, our Chinese culture is one of the national culture, so why couldn't we t

8、o put our culture to the other countries, to make more people in the other countries to celebrate our festivals. However, others believe that the Western festivals threaten a kind of cultural aggression. Therefore, we should drive them out lest they should undermine our traditional culture.In my opi

9、nion, as college students, we should preserve the traditional Chinese culture as well as stay open to Western ones. Therefore, while laying emphasis on Chinese festivals, we could also absorb foreign elements. Whether we Chinese should celebrate the western festivals or not has been a subject of hea

10、ted discussion and argument among people of all ranks recent years. Some say that its improper for the western festivals to be celebrated in China because such a festival as Christmas possesses strong religious sense and colors. They are deeply convinced that on the one hand the popularity of the we

11、stern festivals in China is the result of the foreign cultural invasion and the infiltration1 of the foreign “soft force”. On the other hand, more and more Chinese people, especially young people, have lost their interest in our traditional Chinese festivals like Mid-autumn Festival, Dragon-boat Fes

12、tival, Tomb-sweeping Day, Double Ninth Festival etc., showing clearly that some countrymen have lost their self-confidence in our national culture and customs. At the advent of the western festivals, such as Christmas, Valentines Day, Mothers Day and so forth, a festive air scarcely seen before appe

13、ars across the country, attracting thousands upon thousands of Chinese people. In general, the Chinese young men almost dont know the profound implications of our traditional Chinese festivals, instead they are familiar with the western festivals and go after them like a flock of ducks, which has br

14、ought about a serious shock to the Chinese traditional culture and the sense of the community. If the situation continues to develop like this, the consequence would be too ghastly to contemplate. They say as most of us dont believe in Christ, God or religions, and few of us know the meaning of Chri

15、stmas, whats the point of celebrating it? Christmas is a festival full of religious colors and meanings for the Christians. If the non-Christians participate in the observance, they are subservient to foreigners.So lets keep our mind on the traditional Chinese festivals instead. Others think that be

16、ing one of the achievements won by the Chinese people in the reform and opening to the outside world, the western festivals are right and proper to be celebrated by us Chinese. It has nothing to do with worshiping and having blind faith in things foreign. A case in point is that Christmas is springi

As is known to all that Christmas Day, December 25, is the most important festival in the western world, although it is almost certainly not the day on which Jesus Christ was born.
