Cultural events occur frequently, including theatrical and operatic performances, concerts, ballet, and art exhibition, to name just a few. At the opposite end of t
4、he scale, there is a great variety of nightlife in urban centers to choose from, and there is also a wide selection of restaurants. Shopping is an attraction for many visitors, whether in the great department stores of New Y ork, Tokyo and Hong Kong or in the boutique of Paris and London. Many big c
5、ities also offer a unique atmosphere and history. The Great Wall and the Palace Museum of Beijing and the flower vendors and cable cars of San- Francisco are part of the unusual atmosphere of those cities.The large cities of course do not have a monopoly on architectural or historical monuments. Sma
6、ller towns and rural areas throughout the world have attractions of this kind that tourists visit. Excellent examples are the valley of the Loire River in France with its chateaux from the Renaissance Period, and the village of Zhou Zhuang in Jiangsu of China, a small country town crowned as "V
7、 enice of the Orient".China's administrative units are currently based on a three-level system dividing the nation into provinces, counties, and townships. The country is divided into provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government; a province or an a
8、utonomous region is subdivided into autonomous prefectures, counties, autonomous counties, and/or cities; a county or an autonomous county is subdivided into townships, national minority townships, and/or towns. Municipalities directly under the Central Government and large cities are subdivided int
9、o districts and counties; autonomous prefectures are subdivided into counties, autonomous counties, and cities. Autonomous regions, autonomous prefectures, and autonomouscounties are all autonomous national minority areas. The Constitution specifically empowers the state to establish special adminis

As the largest city in central China and the hub of land and water transportation on the middle reaches of the Y angtze River, Wuhan surely is the center of economy, culture and p
23、olitics in Central China and is one of the most important cities in China.Wuhan is situated in the subtropical zone, belonging to the southeastern monsoon climate belt of our country. The four seasons are clearly divided, and the temperature varies greatly in the year. The geographical location and
24、conditions of Wuhan are favorable. The high Nanling mountain range lies in the distant south, while the Qinling and the Dabie mountains wind their ways along the north. Between these two mountain ranges, the cold and warm air from the opposite directions can generally be regulated, so the people of
25、Wuhan fully enjoy their geographical favors bestowed by nature.Located on two rivers of the Y angtze (Changjiang, the second longest river in the world, and Hanshui, the greatest branch of the former, Wuhan is divided into three parts, namely Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang. These three converge at the
26、Wuhan Y angtze (Changjiang Bridge, the first bridge across Y angtze River. Other bridges, the No. 2 Y angtze Bridge, completed in 1995, and two other bridges across Hanshui River link Wuhan so that it has the nickname, "City on Rivers".Wuhan is a major junction of traffic and communication
27、 in Inner China. Historically, Wuhan is referred to as "Thoroughfare to Nine Provinces because of her great convenience in transport. And now, two airports, two international harbours, several national railways and highways allow Wuhan a greater capacity of transportation. With the extended con
28、struction of Jingguang Railway and national-rank highways and airplane network, Wuhan has become an important center of transportation by water, air and land. The opening of Wuhan port and Tianhe International Airport make Wuhan closer to the world.Wuhan is rich in culture and history. Wuhan's c
