3、tionThe projectHUST summer campis a cooperative project between School of Foreign Languages and Foreign Affairs Department. The purpose of the project is to provide a platform for students to improve their English, especially oral English. The students are divided into small classes to communicate w

4、ith the international teachers. All the teachers are native English speakers. Even some of them have been to China for over five times. This is the 10th year that HUST held this project.All the international teachers and teaching assistants work together to help the students to express themselves in

5、 English and try to think in English. The most important is to provide them with an opportunity to speak English like native speakers. 1.2 host descriptionSchool of Foreign Languages of HUST has four departments, containing English, Japanese, German and translating. The school cooperates with many i

6、nternational organizations and institutes. Each summer, the school employs many professionals to our school to teach or give students lectures. School of Foreign Languages is mainly in charge of teaching affairs, including scattering the questionnaires and tell the teachers about the students sugges

7、tions.Foreign Affairs Department has cooperated with School of Foreign Languages for ten years. Foreign Language Affairs Department mainly deals with the accommodation of the international teachers. Foreign Affairs Department provides hotel and food for all the teachers. During the weekends, they wo

8、uld bring the teachers to some places of interesting. 1.3 assistance requiredThe summer camp requires the teaching assistant to work as a bridge between the international teachers and School of Foreign Languages, and also a bridge between the teachers and students.The school has a great many questio

9、nnaires to do the survey both for the teachers and3 students. When the teacher needs, I would assistant her no matter she wants to go shopping or wants to go hang out.As the teaching assistant, I need to ask the students suggestions towards Dallas and me from time to time. Then I need to tell their

10、suggestions to Dallas. At the beginning of each class, I need to do the roll call to make sure everyone is here. If they were not here, I would call them to make sure the reasons why they were absent. 2. Analysis of the subject content 2.1working as a teacherThe first thing of my work I need to ment

11、ion is to be a good teacher. As the students are not so good in English, it is a little bit difficult for them to understand the international teacher very well. I would explain for them or take the role of interpreter.At the beginning of each class, I would do the roll call to make sure everyone is

12、 here. If someone were absent, I would call him to make sure about the reasons why he was absent. Then I need to scatter the name cards to the students so that the teacher can call them easily. When they get stark at the teacher, I need to add the Chinese equivalent to the blackboard to tell them. T

13、he most important is to help them express themselves in English. Some students are very shy and they are afraid to speak in public. Dallas and I need to encourage them to speak English instead of speaking Chinese. When they dont know the words or phrases, I would help them.As some students are class

14、mates, they would sit near each other, thus they are in one group when they need to discuss. I want them to talk with other students so that they can make progress. Then I ask then to form new groups to study with each other. It works! After a weeks teaching, they are much more familiar with each ot

15、her and they are no longer afraid of talking to each other even the ones they are not so familiar with. 2.2 working as a collageMs. Guo told us that the teacher was not our line manager, but our collage. However, we need to assistant them both in daily life and in teaching.4 It is the first time tha

16、t Dallas visits China. Everything here is new for her. She didnt know where to get the money, where to have lunch, where to buy clothes.etc. I brought her to Bank of China to get her US dollars into RMB. Then I took her to the supermarket in our campus to buy what she needed. The greatest challenge

17、for me was the internet. Since Dallass the operating system is difficult from mine, I tried to operate her laptop to find the interface to connect the laptop to the Internet.In order to make her life more colorful, I took her to the water lily festival and to other interesting places.In her daily li

18、fe, when she needed to ask the hotel for something, I need to be the interpreter. It was a great challenge for me. But I was still very happy to do the job. In our spare time, I took her out to eat the traditional Wuhan food. She was crazy about Chinese food because Chinese food are totally differen

19、t from what she had eaten in America. 2.3 working as a bridgeI need to try to bridge the students and teacher. Meanwhile, I need to bridge the teacher and our school.After a weeks teaching, our school gave all the students questionnaire to ask for their suggestions towards Dallass teaching. A majori

20、ty of the students suggested that they wanted Dallas to talk more about American life, especially American campus life. It seems that all the students were extremely interested in America. I collected the questionnaires and sorted their suggestions. Dallas was very satisfied to get their suggestions

21、. In her later teaching, she paid more attention to the students interests. More and more students actively participated in the discussion.The school had many notices and questionnaires to scatter. I often got the questionnaires for the international teacher. The questionnaires were mainly about int

22、ercultural communication. Dallas recognized that it was really sometimes difficult to get clear about Chinese expressions. In America, they would smile to each other even they were strangers. However, people seldom smile to each other if they dont know each other. She was so enthusiastic that she wo

23、uld say hello to everyone she saw on the way. I told her that it was stupid in China. The school gave me the evaluation form both for students and teachers. The students praised Dallass work and5 Dallas encouraged them to go on speaking English. I told the students that Dallas and I was very proud o

24、f them. She acted so great at the talent show that all the audience were lost in their song. 3. Experience and lessons gained from the internship 3.1 give and gainBefore the project stated, I had already got to know that I could gain a lot. However, never before had I imaged that I could gain so muc

25、h. It was far more beyond my expectation.During the past weeks, Dallas and I became good friends. We communicated with each other about art, literature and Japanese. Apart from our work in campus, we go shopping happily. I remember that once we went to the café in our campus, she wanted to orde

26、r the compound chicken. I know the Chinese name for this dish, unfortunately, I had never known its English name. Later on, I surfed the Internet to get the name and ordered the dish for her. It was really a good feel to be needed by others. I tried to help her to use chopsticks to eat. At first she

27、 didnt know how to use them. Then I carefully taught her, she got to use them gradually.It is true that if you truly go into someone and treat him heartily, you will feel that every individual is of no difference in his identity. Whether he is from USA or Africa, whether poor or rich, the only thing

28、 you care is their soul and spirit. To be frank, I did have some prejudice and stereotype towards black people before this internship, nevertheless, I am now grateful to be a friend with them. Just like what the Olympic songs delivers-you and me, from one world, and we are families.Not to mention ho

29、w great achievements I had made, only the friendship I enough. I was really happy to see the effect of this summer camp has exceeded its purpose. 3.2 cooperationCooperation was very important in our summer camp. Both Dallas and I need to cooperate with each other to make the project run smoothly.In

30、the class, I needed to turn the computer and project for her. She didnt know Chinese, and then I need to help her with the computer. Sometimes, when the students didnt know what she6 was talking about, I needed to cooperate with Dallas to set an example to all the students.Both Dallas and I needed t

31、o cooperate with the students as well. They wanted to be creative in the art creating. We tried to help them by encouraging them to make up stories, etc.At the end of the summer camp, nearly all the students said very high of our work. 3.3 learn everywhereI learned a lot from Dallas and my students.

32、 They were enthusiastic and energetic. I remembered that one day, I went out with Dallas. She told me that a boy was checking me out. I was very confused about the phrase “check out. She laughed and she told me the meaning. Then she performed that. I told her that if a boy was checking me out, we Ch

33、inese girls would intend not to know. However, she told me that American girls would say hello to the boy, etc.Then I realized the great cultural difference between us. Chinese parents educated their daughters to be ladies. Then Chinese girls act themselves like a lady.Once there was a competition a

34、mong all the classes. Our team was much smaller than the others. There was no doubt that we lost in the competition. All the students were very disappointed. Dallas encouraged them, telling them that the purpose of the competition was not to win, but to entertain themselves. To be happy was the most important. The students grew up with the idea that they need to win in the competition, otherwise, they would be laughed at by others.This was the big di
