2、ions: have you read thrilling and exiting stories? have you seen the soul-stirring film?which of you had adventurous experience? and would you like to tell us?what shall we do when we get into trouble?(have a discussion and list them on the blackboard)step 2: warming-up1. talk about the pictures on
3、page 15. encourage the ss to act out the story in front of the class.2. ask a student to tell the story.step 3: listening listen to the tape.the short play has three scenes.there are two questions for each scene. some new words: footprint, shoeprint, fingerprint, tire, mystery active listening will
4、help the ss to get the specific information. they dont need to choose the correct answers to the questions. after checking the answers, play the tape for them to look at the original texts and ask them to fill in the missing words. step 4: speaking write a short play to give the rein to your imagina

7、cially some difficult sentences.教学过程:step 1: lead-inteacher shows a picture on the screen and asks some questions about it.who is he? what part did he play in the picture? have you ever acted in a play? what role did you play?step 2 presentation1.revise and teach some jewellery vocabulary: ring, ear
8、ring耳环, necklace, gold, silver, diamond, etc.2.tell the ss something about the author: have you ever read the story “the diamond necklace”? do you know who wrote the story? whats the nationality of the writer? “the diamond necklace” was written by a well-known frenchman named maupassant. he was a fa
9、mous novelist(小说家) and short-story writer. he was born in 1850. as a schoolboy, he was very much interested in literature(文学), and won a prize for one of his poems. so his writing began at an early age, and he became a famous novelist in his thirties. most of his works were about everyday life of th
10、e people of low social rank. as he had worked in government departments since 1871, he knew well about the life of government workers. and this experience helped him create his best short story “the diamond necklace”. his writing style was direct and simple. all these can be seen from the play we ar
11、e going to learn. maupassant suffered a great deal from illness in his later life. he only lived for 43 years and died in paris in 1893. he had a short life, but his works will last forever.3.give the ss a brief introduction to the play: this is a one-act play, which is based on maupassants best kno
12、wn story “the diamond necklace”. there are three characters in the play: mathilde loisel, a young woman; pierre loisel, mathildes husband, a government worker; jeanne, mathildes good friend. the story happened in paris. one day, pierre got an invitation to a palace ball. he thought it important to h
13、im, and decided to go to the party with his wife mathilde. but mathilde was worried, because she had no new dress and no jewellery to wear. her husband spent 400 francs on a new dress and she herself borrowed a diamond necklace from her good friend jeanne. the young couple went to the ball and had a
14、 very good time there. on their way home after the ball, mathilde found that the necklace was no longer around her neck. they rushed back to the palace and looked for it everywhere. but they couldnt find it; it was lost. the young couple borrowed a great deal of money and bought a necklace that was
15、exactly like jeannes. it cost them 36,000 francs. so they had to work day and night to pay back the money they had borrowed. after ten years of hard work, they at last returned all the money, but now mathilde looked so old that jeanne even couldnt recognize her when they met. when jeanne heard the s
16、tory, she told mathilde that the necklace she had borrowed wasnt a real diamond necklace. it wasnt valuable at all. it was worth 500 francs at the most.step 3 reading1.go through the first scene with the ss and ask some comprehension questions: 1)how does mathilde look? why?(because she had been wor
17、king very hard for ten years.) 2)where has she lived? (she has lived in a small cold room.) 3)why did she need to borrow some jewellery? (because her husband and her were invited to a palace ball.)2.deal with any language problems.step 4 reading aloud1.play the tape for the ss to listen and follow.2
