3、torical features of streets as well as the elements of landmark which contributes to those features and explore one kind of conservation way for t hese his to rical st ree ts. as a consequence it has crucial theoretical and practical meaning for solving conflicts among the inheritance of city cultur

5、. therefore, it is crucial to make surveys of people from different ages , make a conclusion of cognitive landmarks and hence grasp the regular pattern of how these cognitive landmarks in one same region change in different eras, as by this way not only will it provide theoretical basis for the cons

6、ervation and promotion tasks for streets and historical architecture, but also has an important meaning for cities, cultural heritage as well as traditional dis trie ts, prosperity and development2. the composition of the landmarks identified elementsthis dissertation chose four groups of people as

7、the survey objects those who were born in 1930s, 1950s,1970s and 1990s respectively. among them thereare 30 people in each group. in the survey these objects were told to use recall method and identify method to point out what signs (landmarks, such as architecture, billboard, commercial forms and s

9、ements of historical landmarks and hence got the historical landmarks of the streets. first of all, it made a hierarchy of landmarks cognition and divided them into different elements on the basis of final objective of the study. then it chose the criteria of judgment and determined the project. fin

10、ally these different elements were combined with different hierarchies to form a multilayer analysis model of structure because of those efforts we could conclude from weight of importance related with the general target at last. 2 3.1 choosing the principle of judgmentthis study chose four judgment

11、 principles regarding historical street landmarks which are shown as below. (table2)3. 2 analytic hierarchy processthe analysis mainly follows five steps: firstly it builds a hierarchy structure model; secondly it structures a judgment matrix; thirdly the hierarchies are arranged singly; fourthly it

12、 has the conformity test; lastly all the hierarchies need to be ranked because of the issue of operation, this study only presents the first two steps1) building a hierarchy structure modelat first we need to make sure that whether the objects can become historical landmarks of streets or not. ( fig

13、. 1 ) then we list out four judgment principles popularity ,historical significance ,feeling of years as well as continuity. after that we choose the most presentative solutions for these two streets studied in the dissertation respectively. the solutions use landmark elements which occur more than

14、25 times (including 25 times) by recall method. the structure model as picture 1 is built after all elements have been determined. these landmark elements are:(table3)2) strueturing a judgment matrixit determines weights of each judgment principle related to the goals by comparison. judging matrix s

15、cale is introduced in this analytical method to quantitatively show the importance of each elements in the matrix. (toble4)it can be con eluded t hat compared with these elements, as same as important is 1: 1, intensively important is 11:1. through comparing among theseelementss and putting data int

17、re all the solution judgment matrixes which are related to different principles3. 3 debatecalculation shows that quanye bazaar as well as department store have higher values compared with other landmark elements and hence become the historical cognitive landmarks on heping road people ' s percep

18、tion regarding historical landmarks in the streets has more tendency to specific mat erial eleme nts. these specific material elements have more stability and have more impression on people as a result4. conclusion and enlightenmentwe can seethe trend of how cities develop from the change of landmar

19、ks these landmarks are not only a leading mark, but also a miniature of city,s image and spokesperson of the city. we have an obligation to study on people' s perception about landmark elements in order to adapt historical style and features to cities development. all in all, in the upcoming cites' development, we must put more focus on the inh
