21、e marriage view in the book Pride and PrejudiceJane Austen, the writer of the novel Pride and Prejudice, is a typical example who is the sacrifice of pressure from social background to marriage. Austen loves writing since she is young and she often writes some short passage to read to others. She is

However, after gradual knowing to each other, they fall in love with each other. Their love is not allowed by Lefroys uncle, but his un

The condition of being acceptable is the family background-fortune and position while Austen is only a common woman in town with not much money, no position and no heritage, so his uncle ce

Austen is very sad at that time but as a woman, she can do nothing to change this situation. Meanwhile, a rich local minister loves Austen and he proposes to Austen e

No long time after that, Austen sees Lefroy again because Lefroy escapes from his marriage and disobeys his uncles plan. Then Lefroys uncle says that his heritage wou

In her mind, elopement is a kind of expression of true love and against social bondage. However, she finally gives up because she sees Lefroys letters fr

Not only from her book Pride and Prejudice, but also the love story of herself, the pursuing of true love and marriage without any material bound, and feminism are expressed clearly. She combines the unequal treatment

The development of feminism at that era in the societyIn the 17th century, the feminism thought had been

They even set up schools for girls to teach girls advanced knowledge and spread the feminism thought. In the late 18th century, the priv

33、ate schools for girls in middle class had great development; the knowledge spreading covered more female people. However, many of these schools paid most attention to educate these middle class girls how to be elegant and courteous, which just made preparation for their marriage. In the 19th century,

34、 females desire to equal rights had become more and more obvious. Marion Reid was a distinct representative. Reid thought that education for girls at that time limited the creation of female and females thinking ability cannot be expressed. The education at that time for girls just made girls as rob

They set up organizations to gather partners to fight for female together. They tried to start high school for gir

At the same time, they encouraged woman to find jobs to realize their dream and provided professional skill training for girls so that they can have the ability and good chance to get a job.3.2. The influence of

37、feminism thought to characters in the bookIn the book Pride and prejudice, the pride and prejudice are the gap between Darcy and Elizabeth. Darcys pride leads to the prejudice of Elizabeth and her refusal to his proposing. With the development of feminism and the feminism campaign, the marriage view

38、 of woman at that time has some changes. For the main character Elizabeth, material condition is not the most important factor to consider when it comes to marriage. For her, love and appreciation are more important than material condition but this does not mean that material condition is not consid

39、ered, just not as important as love. Meanwhile, Darcy is so pride and impolite to her, and with the bad comments from other people, so Elizabeth dislikes Darcy. For Darcy, his pride is based on his material condition and social position. Because of the traditional social background, he has the right

40、 and ability to be proud, this is commonly accepted, so his marriage view is that pretty appearance is also important, and the good characteristic is also quite important as well as love, but material condition is also important at that time. When he proposes to Elizabeth, he expresses his heart to E

41、lizabeth, and he is not more eloquent on the subject of tenderness than of pride. He dislikes her family, her inferiority because he thinks that her condition is not good enough to match him. He expresses his love to Elizabeth, as well as his worry. He is quite upset because of her refusal, but his

42、appearance shows his real confidence of her acceptability. From Darcys point of view, what he says are all true and he just says them directly. Theres no fault. However, for Elizabeth, she says “It is natural that obligation should be felt, and if I could feel gratitude, I would now thank you. But I

43、 cannotI have never desired your good opinion, and you have certainly bestowed it most unwillingly.” Although what Darcy says is true, it is quite impolite to express this material condition so clearly. Then how he behaves means impolite for Elizabeth. The pride in the book not only leads to the pre

44、judice and misunderstanding of Elizabeth, but also leads to the circuitous love story between Jane and Bingley. At that time, young ladies are not allowed to express their love and feeling to other people quite obviously otherwise they would be blamed by other people. Meanwhile, Jane is a shy young

45、lady, so she doesnt show much of her feeling and love to Bingley. Darcy inserts into the event at that time and tells Bingley that Jane does not love him as he does to her, so Bingley goes back to his city town later. Though finally, they know the love of each other, but the process is twisting and

46、a little painful. If theres no those words from Darcy, the process might not so painful. Darcys reason is that he thinks that Jane does not love Bingley, if he does not persuade Bingley in time, Bingley would be hurt. That is Darcys own thought. Because of his pride, he believes that his thought wou

47、ld also be right. From this aspect, Womans social status can be showed clearly. In the Pride and Prejudice, the effect of pride and prejudice which derive from the feminism effect and traditional social background just leads to the twisting of love story between Darcy and Elizabeth, as well as the l

48、ove story between Bingley and Jane. In the book Pride and Prejudice, the male characters change their attitude or behavior because of love to one lady which derives from the feminism effect and traditional social background and also female character also change her idea to Darcy because of the chang

49、e of her prejudice to Darcy. She is not judge people partly any more.4. The comparing of two kinds of marriages in the book Pride and Prejudice 4.1. The analysis of Elizabeth and Darcys marriage Darcy has quite a good family, a large amount of fortune, a noble position and gentle appearance so that

50、there are many women wanting to be with him. For these reasons, he has become very proud since he was young. The pride, accompanying him all the way, is expressed quite clearly when Darcy meets Elizabeth at the party first time. He thinks that Elizabeth is not pretty enough to attract him. Actually,

51、 his words are truly correct. So many pretty women are pursuing him but he does not like them. The reason of leading to pride is that he says these words in the presence of Elizabeth. This is quite impolite. From Darcys words, his pride is expressed so clearly. Elizabeth is not the most beautiful gi

52、rl at that place but she is quite wise and has her own ideas. She is smart, so when she hears Darcys comment on her, she is angry but she just buries it inside. At that time, prejudice has appeared. Because of Darcys pride, all the people there dislike him and have bad comment on him. Although Eliza

53、beth is not a narrow-minded woman, these comments still have influence on her. The appearance of William and his intentionally bad comments to Darcy make Elizabeth have her prejudice to Darcy thoroughly. Here the prejudice means the thing that she is deceived to believe other peoples bad comments on

54、 Darcy rather than Darcys explanation. However, even though Darcy is proud and Elizabeth has great prejudice to Darcy, after the development of the events of Wycombe and Lydia and the help from Darcy who just give help to them to deal with the scandal secretly, Elizabeth changes her prejudice to Darc

55、y. Actually, they two are similar and have similar marriage view that love and appreciation are the most important in marriage. If theres no love in marriage, no matter how rich they are or how powerful they can be, the life and the marriage cannot make people feel really happy. From the plot that D

56、arcys aunt asks Elizabeth to separate with Darcy because of Elizabeths common family and position, but Elizabeth rejects directly, their marriage view can be showed obviously.4.2. The analysis of Wycombe and Lydias marriageWycombe, who finally marries Lydia, is quite a bad man and he always makes use of women to get what he wants. Mr. Darcys younger sister is also a victim to satisfy his desire that she is pregnant after eloping with Wycombe and is cast off by him. Mr. Darcy ever gives him a
