As a young man in the PigeonCreek Valley of Indiana,he not only criticized but he wroteletters and poems ridiculing people and dropped these letterson the country roads where they were sure to be found. One ofthese letters aroused resentments that burned for a lifetime.3、林肯

Since hehad very long arms,he chose cavalry broadswords and tooklessons in sword fighting from a West Point graduate; and,onthe appointed day,he and Shields met on a sandbar in theMississippi River,prepared to fight to the death; but,at thela

One of his favorite quotations wasJudge not,that ye be not judged. And when Mrs. Lincoln andothers spoke harshly of the southern people,Lincoln replied ：Dont critic

14、ize them; they are just what we would be undersimilar circumstances.
