I want to know what youre eager for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts desire. It doesnt interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. It doesnt interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by lifes betrayals(背叛) or have become depressed and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the wild joy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without warning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human. It doesnt interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the scolding of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty even when its not pretty every day, and if you can gain your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “_” while failed. It doesnt interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of sorrow and despair, tired and hurt to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesnt interest me who you know or how you came here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink(退缩) back.It doesnt interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. 故选A。【5题详解】推理判断题。根据上文“I want to know if you can see beauty even when its not pretty every day, and if you can gain your own life from its presence.”(即使每天的生活并不舒心,你是否能从上帝的存在中寻求自己生命的来源。 )可推断,下文的句意:我想知道,你能否身处颓境,却依然站立在湖边对着银色的月光喊一声“真美”! 也就是说面对失败,说我能行。故选C。【6题详解】推理判断题。根据第三段的“I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by lifes betrayals(背叛) or have become depressed and closed from fear of further pain!”(我想知道,你是否已触及自己悲哀的中心,是否因生活的种种背叛而心胸开阔,抑或因为害怕更多的痛苦而变得消沉和封闭!)可知,作者不会同意“即使你被背叛,你仍然喜欢你所的同伴。”故选C。CWASHINGTON, D.C. - The FBI on Monday released new data about hate crimes. It showed that more hate crimes were carried out in the United States last year. There was an increase in incidents motivated by intolerance against Jews, Muslims and LGBT people, among others. The termLGBT includes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. There were more than 6,100 reported incidents of hate crimes in 2016, up from more than 5,800 the year before. The FBI made this report based on data submitted by law enforcement(执行) agencies across the country. The new data follows a trend from 2015. The trend shows that the largest share of victims last year, nearly six in 10, were targeted(为目标) due to intolerance against the victims race or ethnicity. The number of hate crimes caused by intolerance against a persons race or ethnic background rose to 3,489 from 3,310 a year earlier, the FBI report said. Half of those hate crimes were caused by racism against African-American people. One in five victims were targeted because of their religion. One in six were due to sexual orientation, the report said. The FBI data gains a general look at hate crime in the nation. But this report is considered incomplete because not all areas report their hate crimes. According to the FBI, 88 percent of agencies choosing to participate in the hate crime statistics program “reported that no hate crimes occurred” in their areas last year.Speaking earlier this year after a series of threats targeting Jewish schools and community centers, former FBI director James B. Comey admitted this. He said that the bureau needs to do a better job of tracking and reporting hate crime. Only then can we understand what is happening and how to stop it.“Hate crime is different from other crime,” Comey said in prepared remarks delivered in May. “They damage at our sense of self, our sense of belonging. The end result is loss: loss of trust, loss of dignity, and in the worst case, loss of life.”The FBI report, which collects information on the offenders in the hate crimes tallied(总计) last year, found that the largest share, nearly half were white. About a quarter of the people who carried out hate crimes were African-American.Four in 10 of the people identified as “known hate crime offenders” committed simple assault. This could mean a threat of violence or causing a minor injury. Nearly a quarter committed aggravated(=serious) assault, which is more serious and often involves the use of a deadly weapon. The report also identified more than 1,600 people who committed hate crimes by damaging, vandalizing or trying to destroy property.7. The author emphasizes the situation of hate crimes mainly by using _.A. examplesB. statisticsC. comparisonD. quotation8. Why is hate crime different from other crimes in the article?A. The article highlights that hate crimes are more likely to end with injuries.B. The article emphasizes that hate crimes target peoples sense of belonging.C. The article explains that hate crimes are tracked more often than other crimes.D. The article shows that hate crimes occur more often in minority communities.9. Which of the following are the results of hate crimes? _.violence or injuries loss of dignity or life damage to property use of deadly weaponsA. B. C. D. 10. Whats the genre of this passage?A. News report.B. Argumentation.C. Description.D. Research report.【答案】7. B 8. B 9. D 10. He never understood what they meant. He didnt feel difficult at all. He didnt throw milk bottles at the garden wall, or tip tomato ketchup over his head and pretend it was blood, or slash at his grannys ankle with his sword, though he occasionally thought of these things. Apart from all vegetables except potatoes, and fish, eggs and cheese, there was nothing he would not eat. He wasnt noisier or dirtier or more stupid than anyone he knew. His name was easy to say and spell. His face, which was pale and freckled, was easy enough to remember. He went to school every day like all other children and never made that much fuss about it. He was only as offensive to his sister as she was to him. Policemen never came knocking at the front door wanting to arrest him. Doctors in white coats never offered to take him away to the madhouse. As far as Peter was concerned, he was really quite easy. What was difficult about him?It was not until he had been a grown-up himself for many years that Peter finally understood. They thought he was difficult because he was so silent. That seemed to bother people. The other problem was he liked being by himself. Not all the time, of course. Not even every day. But most days he liked to go off somewhere for an hour to his bedroom, or the park. He liked to be alone and think his thoughts. Now, grown-ups like to think they know whats going on inside a ten-year-olds head. And its impossible to know what someone is thinking if they keep quiet about it. People would see Peter lying on his back on a summers afternoon, chewing a piece of grass and staring at the sky. “Peter, Peter! What are you thinking about?” they would call to him. And Peter would sit up with a start. “Oh, nothing. Nothing at all.”Grown-ups knew that something was going on inside that head, but they couldnt hear it or see it or feel it. They couldnt tell Peter to stop it, because they did not know what it was he was doing in there. He could have been setting his school on fire or feeding his sister to an alligator and escaping in a hot air balloon, but all they saw was a boy staring at the blue sky without blinking, a boy who did not hear you when you called his name.As for being on his own, grown-ups didnt much like that either. They dont even like other grown-ups being on their own. When you join in, people can see what youre up to. Youre up to what theyre up to. You have to join in, or youll spoil it for everyone else. Peter had different ideas. In fact, he thought, if people spent less time joining in and making others join in, and spent a little time each day alone remembering who they were or who they might be, then the world would be a happier place and wars might never happen. The trouble with being a daydreamer who doesnt say much is that the teachers at school, especially the ones who dont know you very well, are likely to think you are rather stupid. Or, if not stupid, then dull. No one can see the amazing things that are going on in your head. A teacher who saw Peter staring out the window or at a blank sheet of paper on his desk might think that he was bored, or stuck for an answer. But the truth was quite different.11. It can be learned from the first paragraph that _.A. Peter liked playing practical jokesB. Peter wasnt particular about food at allC. boys generally did some crazy thingsD. Peter knew why he was called“difficult”12. Which of the following would Peter be most likely to do?A. To walk around a lake for quite a while.B. To break the neighbors fence for fun.C. To tie a dirty dustbin to a dogs tail.D. To sleep in the tent with his friends.13. What is the main reason that Peter was considered“difficult”by grown-ups?A. He was far from communicative.B He turned a deaf ear to others.C. He did not do well in his studies.D. He preferred to live on his own.14. What might the author continue to write about in the following part?A. Effective measures to help Peter out.B. How the unique ideas Peter had amazed others.C. Difficulties keeping Peter from learning well.D. Further prejudice against Peter among grown-ups.15. What can serve as the best title of this passage?A. The DaydreamerB. The TroublemakerC.
