1、We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own; disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning.Scortio 满分校园GRE作文版版主 When we retrospect how our knowledge and thoughts have come into being, we will easily find that, besides those we have learned from schools, we are always imitating and learning from others, who are mainly parents, friends and those we respect rather than those we hate, disgust or contempt. Its always easy for us to learn much more from those whose views we share than from those whose views contradict ours. Firstly, disagreement always arouse stress and enmity. When two persons or two groups cannot achieve agreement on some subject, what succeed is always a hot dispute. The two parts stick to their own point of view and trying vainly to convince the other that they are totally wrong. However, the two parts are always putting to much emphasis on defeat the other, while having no time or no will to staidly analysis the others point of view and to learn from it. On the other hand, when we share views with someone, we are always satisfied and enlightened. So we are ready to listen to others carefully. When we find our views have some subtle differences compared with others, we are likely to think over it: Am I right? Why there are differences? How did the others view come into being? Have I omitted something important? Or am I not open-minded enough to accept new ideas? Such kind of comparison and introspect help us to correct our thoughts and thus help us in learning to be more mature and wise. However, if we only learn from those whose views are shared by us, we are in danger that our minds and thoughts will be narrower and narrower, since we never accept views deviated from ours. Such kind of self-confident tampers our progress in studying rather than help us. People are always thinking themselves are the most correct while others are more or less wrong if the views are not congruent. But if we can rationally analysis those views which are faraway from ours, we have the chance to explore a totally new world filled with inspiring thoughts. What is important is not whether those different views are right or wrong, it is crucial how others achieve such kind of views. By meditating on these, we may open new ways to our minds and thus become more open-minded and fair. In sum, its from those who we share views with that we are improved, while from those who we contradict views with that we get chances to avoid a dead-end or narrower paths of thoughts.carolzhaoIt seems true that we tend to accept views of people whose views accord with us, rather than from people whose views contradict our own. But as for the value of knowledge we obtain from these two kinds of people, it seems that we can learn much more from the latter than from the former. In addition, whether disagreement will cause stress and inhibit learning depend on the individuals acceptance. Although we can learn knowledge from people whose views we share, the knowledge is limited, since the sphere of knowledge of the people who share the same opinion are confined to the same level of cognition with us. It is true that, through learning from these people, we can improve our knowledge, since our knowledge is possessed by ceaselessly accumulating after all. This improvement, however, is limited unless there are some new and different information we absorb. Imagine that, we are still in the status of elementary school even though we have learned the elemental textbook of China, Japan, America, or even more. In fact, these textbooks contain same contents but are various with the expression in different languages or styles. Likely, when we share ideas and opinions with people whose are similar to us, actually, we obtain the knowledge only in one way, one perspective. It will be quite different if we communicate with people whose views contradict to ours. This contradiction means difference in thinking and in perspective of observing the facts, thus providing more than one way to analyze the information and facts we obtained. Since the society evolves more complex, facts are becoming more complicated, various aspects of which eludes us from getting a precise comprehension. Only by obtaining different information, which are come from those who have contradict views to ours rather than those who have similar views with us, can we picture the collage of facts, which is useful in helping us to reach a sound conclusion. Contradict views not only provide us different perspectives to observe facts, in this process, also broaden our ken, sharpen our mind, enrich our knowledge. It is the truth that, we restart to analyze the facts when we are challenged by opposite views, to complement, to rectify, to unify or recant the prior one, hence contributing to achieve sound comprehension, which in return will help us learn more knowledge and make a large progress. Admitted that, it is little harder or even bitter to accept opposite views for us due to our self-assertion is impaired caused by others challenge. Stress caused by disagreement may hinder further learning, while this will less occur in todays democratic society, where advocating equal right to express ones own views is supported prevalent. Whats more, instead of being flinch, many people demonstrate strong interesting in the opposite views, and are promoted to further explore. Thats the impetus propelling our society to advance forward. Generally, we may benefit more from learning contradict views rather than similar views. Although, someone will feel displacement and halt to further achievement, these person can not represent others, who regards conflict as impetus to push them explore further more.- 2、Competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society. scortio When we consider competition, we will find our life is filled with it all the time: When we are young, we compete over toys or praise from parents. In schools and universities, we work hard and compete with others over better grades, honors and basket ball games. When we begin to work, we will have competition over good job opportunities with tens or even hundreds of those who are also interested in it. Competitions are everywhere, everytime in our society. Whats more, competition is the crucial drive to our society, which makes it progress every minutes. It is individuals that make up the society. Firstly and basically, competition is essential driving power to individuals. Everyone wants to be the best, thus comes the competition. In order to win, it takes more than enthusiasm and decisions. We need to make ourselves better so as to be the winner. Therefore, we have to compare ourselves with our competitors. Are they better than I? How big is the difference? Where does it come from? Whats my deficiency? How can I improve myself? What can I learn from my competitors? Such kinds of thoughts urge us to re-evaluate others and ourselves and to improve. The pressure is turned into drive so that we are much more eager to learn more, to be better. For example, if we will have a basket ball game with another team. We will certainly take more exercise, analyze the rivals advantages and disadvantages and try to gain from these. So to some extent, the heavier pressure of the competition, the more improvement we will make. Our society also take advantage of all kinds of competitions, no matter among individuals, teams, companies, groups or parties. Since each wants to win, each parts work hard in order to be better, and consequently all of the competitors are better. This is, to some extent, how our society progresses. On the other hand, if political parts compete over the dominant power, they will try to offer appealing policies to people. If companies compete over customers, they will try to offer better products or services. All these not only help competitors to be better, but also also make people of our society to get better. However, competition is rather to win than to defeat. If competitors put too much emphasis on the result, and try to defeat other competitors by undermining them, our society then will be harmed rather than improved. So its crucial for competitors to keep in mind that the ultimate meaning of competition is to improve itself. Any vicious method employed to hamper others in order to win will lead to a sick trend of our society. In sum, competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society, as long as it is conducted in a healthy way.Lilylu 满分校园gre作文版版主Whether competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society has been a lone-debated issue with varying understanding and consequently different definition of the word competition. While I admit that in an increasingly competitive world where changes happen unpredictably every day and everywhere competition is of great significance to the healthy growth of individual as well as to the wwell0being of society as a whole. The harmonious and balanced society, however, requires both competition and teamwork to complement each other and thus reach the same goal.Wit respect to the business realm where gaining profit is the highest goal, competion within the business law and rules will do no harm to the economic entity and the security and welfare of the community where the business is processing in as long as it iruns legally and always keep its promise to the society-not pollution the environment, promoting neraby comvenience and facilities, enhancing the local employment, etc. Any competion in such form and with such content will be invariably accepted as an impetus of the development of local economy and be welcomed by the majority of people. On the contrary, however, illegal and undue competition can wreck havoc on the local economy and other fields-resulting in the lost of long-term profitability, whats more, the decline in both morality standard and eclipse of personality at last. There are sufficient cases showing the negative effect of undue freedom to compete in various fields. From a historical point of view, the economic competition has evolved from the lower form of free trade to a higher level- the monopoly, which is generally considered to be a great advance in market developing. To some estent, as the historical evidence illustrates, whether competition is harmful of not is largely dependent on what form it takes: pure competition , monopoly, or something else. Another relevant factors accounting for the role competition plays s the motivation of the business, in other words, the managers perspective towards the long-term maintaining of his business. Due to the complexity and profoundness of the business management which cannot be analyzed thoroughly by a case-by-case observation, we can only arrive at a very shallow conclusion that the effect of competition itself is not a decisive role in determining its own value but to rely on other factors from every aspects of social or even academic area.Another word that parallels the definition of competition is teamwork, which seems at first glance contradict with the essence of competition-individuality, eccentricity or even egois. Teamwork, however, place its emphasis on functioning ecletically and obey the order and demands uncondtionally no matter how distinguished the personality shows. The two word differentiate each other greatly. But it does not follow that competition and team work is mutually exclusive. To gain high efficiency and to be benefited by competitvie process while minimize the detrimental effect of competition, a mixture of competitive attitude and an inclining to work harmoniously with other team membvers is required urgently. In conclusion, compettition is necessary for the advancement of society. But its effect must be tested and observed in a case- by case analysis. To further benifit from competition as individual or as an organiztion, teamwork must play a role in the operation. Then individual strength, commitment and energy can operate in a synergetic manner to make any hits in any areas.carolzhao In a democratic society, competition is laudable, since it provides everyone an even chance to compete, puts the one competent in the right place, excludes the phenomenon of nepotism, which might cause low efficiency and hamper the progress of the company, the organization, or even the government. From this sense, competition is more beneficial than detrimental to society. But sometimes, especially in the society where lack of a sound institution on which competition takes place, it will probably do more harm than good to the country. As we all know, in a feudal society, the empire is the superior dictator, and everyone is confined to his or her status determined by strict hierarchy. Many talents were thus inaccessible to higher achievements which they should obtain in a enlighten society. This situation changed as the society evolves to an open and democratic one. Laws and regulations were set up as a result of democratic social reform. Like what we have witnessed these decades, every one of us has equal chance to present our versatility, to compete for a test, a job or a position. Therefore, through competing, the one who is most eligible is put on the right place, and then will produce much more values than those who are not competent as he or she. In returning large improvement competition expedites the development of society, so in this sense, competition acts more positive to benefit our society, While, on the other hand, if a competition is fraught with adulteration and illegality, it will bring deterioration to the society rather than progress. A case in point is related to market economics. Once the economist advocated that government should not interfere the activities of market, a free competition will bring a balance status in the market and in such condition optimal profit will be gained for every firms in the market. What the result turned out, however, is not a boom in market but a commotion and pollution to air and water. Government had to take part into the economic activities and control the market in macro level. In this point, the competition without a sound institution system as a solid base, will produce negative effects on society. In conclusion, when we realize the benefits brought by competition in a modern society, we should also be wary of the potential detriment caused by ill competition. We thus cannot avert that competition will necessarily contribute more beneficial than detrimental to society, unless we set up a sound institution system to instruct the activities.- 3、It is more important to allocate money for immediate, existing social problems than to spend it on long-term research that might help future generations.Scortio People have been seeking ultimate solution to social problems, including such alergic issues as ethics and freedom, traditional culture and foregein impacts, etc., since the concept of society came into being. Society is a nebular complexity which never stops its steps for a second, rather than a homogenized peaceful paradise. To save the society on edge of slippery slope, those in power are always trying to solve, or at least, alleviate social problems like crimes, depravity, discrimination, lacking of responsibility, laziness and so on. Those existing social problems are the most significant hot irons, which, if not been paid enough notice and treated as soon as possiblt, will soon grow into lethal cancers of the society. The society is always on changing, so are the social problems rooted in it. As the society grows into a complex, multiply stratified one with diversified ideas, values, beliefs and sub-cultures, social problems are inevitably growing from the initially simple, polarized ones into more acrimonious and confusing ones which cannot be labeled as right or wrong any more. In such a dilemma, the authority of the society has to allocate more money for those immediate, exising social problems, in that more intellects and labors are needed to develop specified and fair social disciplines, to supervise and guarantee the exacting of these rules, to help people establish healthy personalities and sound minds, to lay an iron-hand on the violation of laws, and to achieve a subtle balance between different groups of the society. Yet we should never blunder neglecting importance of the long term research, which might not only help future generations, but also help ourselves. Some social problems, especially those of ethics and values, are deep rooted and not so easily be solved in near future. They may take years, decades or even generations to be excavated and eliminated, gradually. Maybe no fast or brilliant outcomes can be seen when investment is made to this kind of social problems, however, if we never make the very first step, these problems will never be solved. Though these problems seem to be inert and have no fatal impacts to the current society, the fail to conduct them or at least keep them under proper control will easily exacerbate them to some latent dangers. If we look inside both those acute and chronic social problems, we will find, to some extent, the latter are where the former actually arise from. In other word, those immediate, existing social problems are bombs made from the gun-powder store of those chronic problems. The research of the long term problems will largely help people to understand the immediate, existing ones, thus to have a better solutions to them. Society is a continuously developing one which cannot be broken up in any specific point. Its important to allocate enough money to the immeciate social problems, while its also necessary to pay enough
