商务英语-04就业与工作 Employment & Jobs1 今年该厂有约200名职工下岗The factory laid off approximately 200 workers. “lay off” “解雇、解聘”的意思2. 下岗职工的生活必须得以保障 The daily living of jobless workers must be secured. 此处“下岗”意思是“已经没有工作的人”,不必拘泥而非要翻译成“laid-off workers”不可,翻译时我们“重意不重字,点到为止”,只要意思明白了,就不必逐字译出。3. 干不好就下课 译文(1):If you dont do your job well, you will be fired/sacked. 评:意思对了,但略显冗长 (2):Incompetence will lead to dismissal. 评:意思对了,也很精练,但过于文绉 (3):One has to be dismissed if he fails the job.评:意思对了,用词讲究,精练,口语化,达到了神形皆备。4. 干不好就走人 译文:(1)You must go away if you dont work well.评:意思对了,但过去拘谨 (2)One has to make way if he fails the job.评:准确、精练、口语化5. 全国各省会城市都有“人才市场” 译文:(1)There are “Talents Markets” in every provincial capital all over the country. 评:“人才”是指有职业技能的人,但“人才”可不一定就是“talents”(有才华的人),这一译法过于生硬。 (2)There are “Job Markets” in every provincial capital nationwide. 评:这里的 “人才市场”其实就是“job market”, 简明,达意。6. 目前公司需要招聘人才 译文:(1)Right now the company needs to employ talents. 评:生硬,过于直观,且用词不准 (2)Currently the company has to recruit new staff. 准确、流畅、简明易懂,“招聘人才” 就是“招收新员工”7公司要发展,人才是关键。 译文:Manpower is key factor for a company. 评:这里的“人才”指的是“人力资源”,用“manpower”很贴切8. 人才流失现象在国营企业非常显著 Brain drain is an outstanding phenomenon in state-run enterprises.9. 公司的“人事部”将要更名为 “人力资源部” 译文:The companys “Personnel Department” will be renamed “Manpower Resources Department”10. 公司管理层的人事变动将导致公司经营理念的改变 译文:The reshuffle in the companys management will lead to a different management philosophy.11. 他休假期间,公司调整了人事。 The company was restructured while he was away on holiday.12. 他被老板炒了鱿鱼 He was sacked by his boss.13. 有些老板在用人上采取了招之即来,挥之即去的态度。 With regard to employee management, some bosses just hire and fire at will.14. 不少单位在招聘时只招男性,这其实就是性别歧视 Quite a number of organizations favour males only while recruiting new staff, which is virtually another form of sex discrimination.15. 9.11事件后,由于受美国经济下滑的影响,西北航空公司拟在年内裁员6000人。 Due to the economic slow-down in the United States after the “Sep. 11th Incidence”, the Northwest Airlines is to have a redundancy scheme of 6000.16. 李明明天去一家电信公司应聘 Li Min will go and apply for a job in a telecom company.17. 应聘者需带上简历、身份证和学历复印件 Applicants need to come with their CV and photocopies of ID card and diploma. 注意:(1)“简历” 是 “CV=curriculum vitae(英),或rsum(美)” (2)“ID”=identity18. 应聘者首先要进行面试,回答公司提出的各类问题 Applicants will have to go through a interview first in which questions of different types will be posed.19. 应聘者需着装得体,注意个人形象 Applicants need to be properly dressed to create a favourable personal image.20. 应聘者需要有大学本科以上学历、电信专业、并且具有至少五年以上的工作经验。 A successful candidate must have a 4-year university diploma or above, be of the telecom major with a minimum of 5-year working experience.21. 失业率居高不下,就业前景渺茫 Unemployment is high and job prospect is dim.22. 他失业了。 He is out of wok / jobless.
